tune up??

i was wondering if it would be a bad idea to get a tune up at a local shop like pep boys or precision tune auto care or just a shop like that? Please let me know. I plan to get my baby tuned up this weekend.

Re: tune up??

yeah they're reliable....I got my first tune-up at Merchants Tire and Auto when I first got my car, they did a great job, but know that I know how to do the complete tune-up I can save myself a couple hundred bucks!

i ALWAYS use OEM parts when it comes to maintenance. just spend the loot and pick them up and do the tune-up yourself....

"Tuneup" is a relatively subjective thing and could include anything the shop does or doesn't want to do for the package price. The local gas station might to a "tuneup" for $30, but won't replace a heck of a lot (or with good parts) and may not be thorough as maybe a $60 tuneup somewhere else (dealership?).
Anyway, what I'm getting at is you should find out exactly what the tuneup checks for and replaces for the price. Additional replacement parts will cost you extra. That's why I always do it myselft - then I know what I'm getting and know it's done right. Any service manual will tell you what kind of things to check/replace.

If that's a 92 or newer SE it takes platinum plugs and they are about $80 or so for OEM. See you can get them from Courtesy for like $65.

a FULL tuneup should run you in the call park of $250-300 as far as I know and was quoted! the $60 ones usually just replace the plugs and check your fluids.....
