SS Brake Line

so yesterday afternoon my driver side SS brake line pops after i had slammed on my brakes so that i won't rear end the person in front of me. now my question is, where can i get a replacement brake hose since i had bought it from Matt a while back for my Z32 BBK? of course i will get ahold of him but figured someone on here might know where i can get a pair of lines or just 1 line for my front driver's side?

I'll check and see what I've got. I know I have some in stock. if I have an odd number, I'll be glad to sell you just one.

how/why did it pop though? rubbing against something? fatigue? can you get me pics of the line? If it's a defect, I'll be glad to just swap it and I'll contact technafit directly and deal with the warranty stuff from here. they're pretty good about warranty on something like this- again assuming the line didn't rupture from rubbing on something.

more importantly- obviously you survived- did everyone else?

yeah, a brake line rupturing or popping is highly irregular.
heck I've seen 25yr old factory lines that didn't rupture.

SS lines have a tendency to rupture if they rub against something. I've seen lots in the last 5 years. only one was a defective line. all the rest were due to abrasion.

ill try and get some pics but i think what i think what really happened and i've noticed it a couple of weeks ago but just didn't get a chance to take care of it was that the line was actually rubbing against the cv-axle and that was my fault for not assuming the responsability of fixing. apparently the safety clip that holds the line to the strut some how was not there and thats what caused this to happen. luckily no one was with me and i was not speeding but im ok and so is my car. good thing i was 10 min. away from my house so i had to drive slowly and using the e-brake to stop. once i got home i just took my dad's car to head back to work. Matt, i was gonna contact you to see if you can sell me a line asap if you have any odd ones available if not tell me how much for the pair. so i know this is not a defective line since i let it rub on my axle and didn't fix it when i discovered it on the spot. so Matt can you tell me if you can sell me an odd one or just a pair? i really need my car back on the road.

exub: it was disconnected temporarily but i got it back on now.

in other words they were either installed wrong or they made without the bracket that the OE put on to prevent that (manufacturing flaw).
any which way a properly made and installed hose should not rupture for a very long time.

Wow.. there's an echo in here.

These lines have the bracket for the factory clip- they're a bit smaller than the OE ones, but you can bend the clip just a bit with some pliers and they work perfectly.

Rick, I didn't get a chance to look last night, but I'll check it when I get home tonight. if I have one, it'll be $30 sent uSPS priority. if I only have pairs, then it'll be $55 shipped same.
should get there about tuesday or so if I get it shipped on Sat.

You need a faster lawn mower like me:

Of course it isn't real.

GRNMAXDMON, I'm glad everything is ok. Hopefully, you get it fixed by next weekend. We need as many 3rd gens as possible for the SFMG meet.

i just installed SS lines on the -VE5- tonight....they're ran properly, and the clips on the struts SEEM to be holding good, had to modify them a little bit as the big side of the retainer on the line kept slipping through.

hope i don't get any problems out of them.

Stainless Steel brake lines are better because where the rubber lines will expand under pressure, reducing your overall pressure at the caliper, the SS line will not, giving you more consistent brake pressure throughout......that is, IIRC.

edit: wayne beat me to it....

Come down to the SFMG meet in Ft Lauderdale on Sept 29th. We already have 50 Maximas planning to attend. Lots of food too! Starts at noon and continues probably to around 7pm or whenever it gets dark. NWP Engineering is sponsoring this meet too.

From Daytona, it's only a little over 3 hours away.

I know xxMarshallxx lives near Daytona. Ash Powers lives close by with his insane z32. There are tons more. I would visit the SE forum and pull up the past meet they had in Daytona to figure out who's around. I'd probably just bump that thread since everyone's subscribed to it.

I'll do it for ya:

I'd love to go, but I can't get there that early. I'm currently offshore with work, and won't be home until late tomorrow night.

Sat and Sun, I'll be doing some last-minute prep work on the 240.. I plan to drive down on Monday- get up realllllly early and try to make it in one day. (~15 hrs) if not, I'll crash at my sister's house in Jacksonville and finish the drive on tuesday morning.

When I installed the Techna-fit lines, they didn't fit in the tab on the strut housing correctly. So I couldn't use that retainer clip. I had to use two zip ties and it's working just fine. I check it every now and then to make sure it hasn't come lose.

the technafit lines are just smaller than the original lines. simply grab the the retainer on the strut housing with some channel locks and bend the ends together about 1/8". the clip will then fit just fine.
