My dedication to 3rd gens

In my Material science class at school we made rings out of sterling silver and had to engrave things into them. I chose to do a dedication to the third gens and engraved VE AD VG in the ring, AD being my initials. This ring is not done, i have only sanded it with 220 grit sand paper, it will get 400, 600 then a buff and will turn out shiny chrome looking.

this one was after trimming trees (and my index finger) with a sawzall

the spring finally came to rest 40ft out in the front yard,but it never hit the car..yay

I think I actually made two rings, the second wasn't that great though

must have spent a lot of time carving the wax

(it's too late now but if you polished the wax with paper towels you virtually don't have to sand the cast piece )

I've always got random knuckle scrapes, grease spots, cinged knuckle hair, and dirty fingernails...I can even still see the spot on my hand where it touched a hot catalytic converter for a split second two years ago...My hands are teh sexorz!

Ah, Catalytic converters FTL. It was cold out last February and I was replacing my shifter bushing linkage and I decided the car was cool enough so I started working and ended up burning the **** out of the underside of my forarm by touching the cat with it for a second or so. At first I thought it was really cold.

Hey for give me for not wanting to be dirty all the time, and last time i checked my clutch didn't install itself. At least i get some *** on a regular basis...

Yep Endicott is my teacher, and carving was a *****. But thanks for the tip, ill do it on the next ring we do.

you are talking about a big suspension spring? or a valve spring? either way i thought those would kill you/break bones, not just leave you bloodied up...

It was a front suspension spring,i always keep my head back away from springs when i am in the process of compressing them,thats why it only grazed my face when it broke loose....but yeah i was lucky it didn't knock my block off..

yeah you're a lucky guy. now I'm just going to be paranoid when I get around to doing mine, because no matter what route I choose, I will probably have to compress/remove the springs at some point. but that's not happening right away because i'm going to collect all my parts first, then do it all at once (springs, struts, control arms, balljoints, bushings, steering rack insulators, tierod boots, etc), then drive 10mph to the alignment place and get it aligned once.

my hands are between those of alex d. and matt. i know they hate the cold, that's for sure.

meh,my spring compressors were quite old and overused,i should have replaced them long ago,before the accident...Just be sure to buy a good quality set of compressors,not the $8 ebay sets..

Here are my 2 cents for various people, first;

To the subway guy, you know you dont really have to compress springs yourself right? you can take it to certain parts stores or shops and they will transfer springs for 10-20 bucks EACH which yes its still some cash but at least you'll have piece of mind.

Greeny, the gfs father and I have been working out of the garage lately and have had to compress some struts already SOOOO I tthink I might be getting one of those hydraulic compressors are well!!! I didnt think they were that cheap. Nice commodity

umm. yeah. actually I'm going to maybe have my uncle help with it. I'll talk to him before i start taking my car apart, because if I have him help, i'll need to be in his town (45 minute drive), that, or just toss my struts in some other car and drive down there with them, since it's like $10 there and back on gas

i wonder if it is possible to run something like a tiedown through the spring before compressing it and securing it so if it pops out of the compressor it doesn't shoot at u

In 15 years and easily 100 sets of springs, I've never had one come out of my compressors... and I have a cheapie set I bought at autozone. it's simply a matter of paying attention to what you're doing...

yes it is possible, but that tie needs to be capable of withstanding 150psi before braking to be even remotely useful.
