When I replaced with Red 194's I took the bulbondoms off and it looked great, but I doubt anyone replacing with a color other than stock would leave them on anyway. I experimented with them off the regular 194 bulbs for a few seconds and there was too much ambering, if I wanted to run without them I'd have to go clear LED.

Kind of a ****ty pic, I don't know how to take good night time pics with my camera,

but it does look nice at night time for just $2 replacement non-LED bulbs at your local store

i have red as well......wayne, you are inventive.....have you ever seen the guts of the clusters? the way the light is transferred from the buld to the gauge faces?

i have considered pulling the faces off, and painting the rear with different transparent paints (like red, for the redline area, and color code the temperature, etc.) and using superwhite bulbs behind.

you follow what i'm sayin'?

It's not that important to me.

I believe those are PC74 bulbs they come with the base. sometimes you can find the base separately but not that often.

Why's that? I been around longer than most of you guys put together, and I don't even know that.
then again I've never had a reason to f*** with my cluster... only time I pulled it out was when I yanked the dash to do the heater core. ugh.

I have owned this car almost 8 years, this is the first time the instrument cluster has been removed,i simply needed to change a burnt bulb.

whenever [someone] sends me those darn SE gauges i asked for I will use toyota blue. I have the condoms off a Prizm/Corolla to put on it. IMO red sucks, dark blue sucks too. Green is OK but too GXEish, too outdated. Tho the concept of custom painting is quite interesting, and tempting.

lol Am I late? Wayne the cluster has 4 bulbs Yes I know you changed em already lol

As for the bulbs without condoms...they will get your cluster 100% pregnant. Nah jk, they will look yellow and nasty, I guess the blue is to filter that yellow out and make it white.

I personally think SE gauges look nice with green GXE bulbs. Real nice!

meh,i like the red,I've stared at the oem color for 8 years now,it's a nice change of scenery..

not to mention how much brighter they are!! My old bulbs were soo worn out, they were super dim even before the one bulb blew out.

Has anyone tried replacing the little brown socket bulbs with 3mm leds? I've done it on the toggle switch portion of the digial acc unit and they were a perfect fit with the brown mount. I'm guessing for the gauge cluster you'd have to put the resistors on the wiring harnesses.

I'm planning to do that if my new gauge cluster (lost in mail) ever arrives.

first, the 5mm LEDs would fit better(based on a quick google)
second, yeah you probly need to use resistors.
if you do this swap (and noone else has posted it, yet) let us know.
just don't eff up your gauges....

You talking about GREEN GREEN off a GXE or just stock SE which is kinda of white slight green tint?

Smitty, I've got blue LEDs in all of my buttons and will be workin on the climate controls soon but for now all my buttons match the blue cluster.

Im not sure but i have the LEDs in my switches and they only needed one resistor and thats a 12v current going the switches right. So if you put about 12 LEDs in the cluster couldnt they be fine without a resistor or not? i Know theres a formula for hwo much resistance youll need for an x amount of LEDs and Y volts but i dont know it off hand. Try it every other way before cutting into the stock harness.

What did you get, The "I can't believe it's not pink" Bulbs?
Looks good in the night, but with the light, it looks a little hot pink.

Kinda reminds me of my friends making fun of my Gameboy Color. I said "It's not pink, it's berry."

But what can you do to gain more R in the RGB. Oh well, nice change.
