Need help with seats!
I'm at college 100 miles from home in a town that has no nissan parts I'm willing to make the drive home ( through an avalanche ridden pass....
) So the other day I'm driving to class ( 91 se, manual cloth seats) and the seat back just falls back, the ratcheting mechanism failed and the seat won't stay up. Is there anyway I can temporaraly stick a screw driver into the mechanism to hold the seat up?
Main question, I called the local nissan used parts buisness I go to at home and they don't have any good maxima seats, so, What other nissan seats will fit in a 3rd gen maxima?
Thanks,
Ian

You may want to check local junkyards, even if it is a temp fix. If you can find a pic, or point out what piece broke I'll take one out of my spare cloth manual seats for you and send it to ya...
I have my seat back rebuilt about 10 years ago. The welds failed.
The seat bottom itself has collapsed. That was replaced about 8 years ago.
The track itself next the driver door has been replaced 5 times. It breaks at the front weld between the track and tab that bolts it to the floor. It is currently needing to replaced again.
The best thing I found during the times the seat is not working correctly, is my daughter old child seat. I put the top in back seat grove, and the bottom against the seat back.
I am 6'7", so getting in and out of the car, I stress the seat that is always in the far back position, to get my legs in and out. Specially during the times I am wearing a medical steel shoe to immobilize an ankle and take weight off my big toe.

Holy crap dude you're tall!!! I'm 6ft and people think I look huge in my max
.Although (off topic) I found there to be plenty of room in the Versa! That is another story though.
I am 6'3" and I can relate to the both of you. It makes it difficult for the one sitting behind me as they typically do not have much in the way of leg room. They just do not build cars that favor us tall folk

Hah, have you ever tried sitting in the BACK of a 3rd gen? My head scrapes the roof if I'm sitting up straight (Sucks when we take my car because one of my friends is 7' tall, yes.... seven feet.[/quote]
I did once and was it is sort just as you described it; little headroom sitting up straight. Fortunately, I do not intend to be in the back as I would be driving.

I seem to have the same problem. On the way to work this morning, the seat back (and I) reclined all the way to the rear seat. I checked the adjustment lever to see if it was the issue, but it was fully engaged. The problem appears to be what I have circled below. I did notice a ton of foam coming out of the upholstery... I haven't taken the seats apart before, so I have no idea how the bolts are anchored. Any advice or experience with this?
Two Bolts on each side go up there, one side is tensioned.

For those with damaged or broken seats...its probably cheaper to just replace the seat with a used one from a junk yard rather than having to remove it and have it repaired...in fact I have quite a few cloths seats to get rid of since I have no use for them anymore
The average JY (including the one I work at) in chicago charges between 30-50 bucks per seat...I'm sure repairing it is more than that... just a suggestion

Replacements seats
I have a '93 Max the current seats work fine, however I want a newer ones for the front. its a GXE and it has 195,000 and runs strong. I've been replacing the mechanical things and was wondering if there are any other nissans that will fit mine?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For the front, 90-92 Stanza seats fit the front but the back dont as stanza is narrower. highly doubt you'd like blue cloth stanza seats which is what most of them that I've seen came with.
reason I know is because my friend wanted leather and the maxima's worked fine for the front of his Stanza
speaking of stuff at work.... any word on the stuff we were talking about the other day?
Its really hard, REALLY HARD to find a mint set of black power leather in good shape such as the one you saw in my 3rd gen [at the jy]
or a conglomeration of the two (selling computer parts that work on cars?
)

I don't want it.
