Automatic seat belt clip + wheel problems

Does anyone know where to get a replacement automatic seatbelt clip(the black part that moves when you open in the car door)? Normally you can unclip and clip the seatbelt into there, but mine broke and won't clip in anymore. (I don't even know what it is called and "seat belt clip" isn't bringing up anything)

Also, when on the freeway, my tire sounds like it is coming apart(very loud whirring noise from passenger front wheel). I had gotten it checked out at Big O tires and they said the tire is fine, but I had had to replace the steering column, the axles, ect a couple years ago after I brought it in for an alignment (car shook a bit on the freeway- after they aligned it it couldn't steer correctly).
Any ideas?

Thanks-

Hit up your local junkyard for this.

Could be a bent wheel, or maybe a bad wheel bearing.

I suggest taking it to a different tire store for further diagnoses.

Is there any other places that might carry it? Also, do you know what kind of tool is used to take it off(looks like a hex wrench with a circle in the middle)?

The dealership has them for about $25

http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...1768_1769.html

Look at the diagram, then click on the part # beside the part that you need, the page will refresh with the price.

I have no clue how to remove the part, never been there before..

If there is a problem with your seat belt, the dealership will fix it for free. It has a lifetime warranty from Nissan.

I had my front seat belts replaced for free (they are all one unit).

It looks something like that- it's six sides, has a bit smaller of a circle/cylinder inside, and is still curved on the edges, but not as much.

So I would just call up the dealership and tell them the seatbelt broke and ask if they have a life-time warranty on the seatbelts?

That would be a time/worry saver (seatbelt doesn't work... wheel might blow or something, could be a bad scenerio)

They may give you a hard time about it. I have the documentation that states it is a lifetime warranty, if you need me to make a copy I would be happy to do so.

I dunno if the dealership would cover that. Why did it break? They may say it was neglect or abuse.

like augiedog964 said, he has the documentation to show that all seatbelt parts are under a lifetime warranty. its a safety thing.
and yes, they may try to give you a hard time, but stick to your guns. they just dont wanna work on a 14-19 year old car for warranty work...

I had mine replaced and the belt was frayed from what I told them was normal use. I am sure if you have a part that is broken on a car over 10 years old, it happened from normal use, unless you have obvious marks where it was broken like with a hammer.

I had to show them the warranty info from my owner's manual and talk to the service manager, but they DID fix it for free. Initially, they thought I was full of it, but after reading the warranty information, they were very nice.

I don't know if it is for all Nissans, but based on the warranty booklet I think it is at least all 1989 ones. I'll scan the page tomorrow and post it for anyone who needs it.

It's actually in a separate booklet called the warranty information booklet that came bundled with the manual.

Augie is correct.

I have two booklets. One is the Maxima Manual and the other is a warranty book for all Nissans.

Here are the two books:

The seatbelt info is on page 12 of the warranty book:

so its true for '89 and '92.... im betting on the fact that all 3rd gens are covered by the same (or similar) warranty...

"lifetime" is USEFUL vehicle life... wonder how they define that:/

if it runs well enough for you to pull up to the service lane, i'd guess, it's within its useful vehicle life. if you have a crapped out parts car or something TOWED to them and say "hey can ya fix mah seatbelts?" ... no.

FYI: You can purchase those "special' hex wrenches at Auto Zone relatively cheap. The air bag system on the Max's require them too.

I second/third/fourth (whatever), taking it to a dealer to replace. However, I do have extra seat belt mechanisms lying around (complete system) if you or anyone needs. All I would ask for is shipping on something like this. But, push the dealer to replace. Then all you are out is the day without your car. BTW, they should be able to replace that system in under two hours if they take their time, take a couple of coffee breaks, and have to read the manual to see where all the bolts are. Very easy job!

Thanks Cliff! I'll print the page out, and head down there on Saturday. It's been nerve wrecking driving with loud wheel and a broken seatbelt... apparently the bottom seatbelt portion doesn't have any locking mechanisms for stopping you from hitting the windshield...
Thanks for all the help-
