No More Maxima for Me...

This place is somewhat nostalgic now...

Sadly, I'll have to frequent a newboard for my new car. I traded in my rapidly dying 1990 Maxima GXE Auto for a brand spanking new 2002 Chevy Cavalier Z24 Manual.

I got a pretty good deal. Sticker price was $17,600 and at the end my loan amount came out to be $15,995.

I kinda miss the Maxima, but my cavalier has pretty much beat every other Maxima I've encountered.... tee hee. Some stock, Some not.

Ive also beaten mustangs, civics, one accord and some other cars in this car class. The car is a street racing machine. Has 2.4l 4cyl EcoTec engine and it packs 150hp... plus its a stick. Came w/16" Chrome wheels, Low Ground Effects, Spoiler, Level II Sport Suspension, ABS, All PW Options including Sunroof... pretty well equipped car. It's 2-Door, Silver paint w/ Chrome trimming.

I guess this is good bye to the maxima.org

at least you got something decent....the Z24 is a pretty decent car, I think mid/low 16 in the 1/4th mile! now mod that thing out, I tink they have an S/C for the many J-body's out there......maybe one of us will cross paths with you one day in stoplight race or something and see what your Cavi can do!

Don't take this the wrong way, but you traded a Maxima on a chevy cavilier? I'm sorry, but I would have to disaprove of that transaction. But, everyone has there own opinions, so good luck with that. I just think they are inferior in quality and styling. Interiors on chevy products are not well made, rattle a lot, and don't seem to wear as well. Enjoy the ride...

Had a hook up at the chevy dealer with a friend plus had to take advantage of the $2,500 cash back towards down payment. Other wise, I would've been walking now due to the maxima really being the worse it ever was before I traded it.

Oh well...

I've seen your *** driving that to the grocery store, DaMax! It's okay man, they're really versatile cars and chicks dig em! I bet they could beat a Max with a non-working engine anyday. They could definetely take out Civics...

shhhhhhh.....I told you don't tell nobody, its supposed to be a damn secret!

but seriously though I'm with Dmontz on that one...unless you're a superb driver I don't see a Z24 coming close to beating a VE auto or VG 5spd at that! but none the less the Z24 a decent ride, not sure on that good 'ole Chevy reliability , but besides that the Cavis(j-bodys) have a pretty sturdy modification base and following too, but it ain't no Max!

HERE, HERE, I think it will have a hard time competeting against a VG auto also. My freind's GF had one and she had a hard time keeping up with his suburban on the freeway. Now that is sad because suburbans are sloooooo. About as slow as DA-MAX aztek Funny quote from MTV's road rules season finale...They all received a mitsubishi vitara V6 for there handsome rewards. The one girl says "Ohhh V6??? that means its really fast" anyone else here that?

HAHAHAHA....I didn't hear that, but I hope she doens't get her hopes up. I saw a Vitara at the track last summer(why, I don't know ) it was running mid 17's....now thats fast!

but that sucks, they call a V6 Vitara a reward...BWAHAHAHAHA! man did they get cheated...I think the crew from Road Rules/Real World challenge got 2001 Celica GTS 6spds...now thats a little more along the lines of a REWARD!!

HAHAHA You are correct the crew before that got the Celica's. And before that I think they got sea doo's. Someone had it out for this group. I told my GF, if they gave me the vitara. I would say "WOW! THANKS!!!" Then drive down to the Nissan dealer and ask "How much will you give me for this POS"

My Z24 has already beaten a 3rd Gen Max... Funny though, he tried to take me probably thinking the same thing you fellas are thinking. "Z24 Cavalier? Slow POS", too bad I got him good. White Maxima SE with blue lights all over and sidemarkers. The Rims looked like the OZ Vela wheels but Im sure that they werent. Got him on I90 around Lawrence Ave here in Chicago.

If he's a board member:

HEY, Nice seeing a maxima.org member.......... thru my rearview!

Damn! Blue lights, sidemarkers, and rims? I'm sure those combined added a good 50 hp.

I have never visited the 3rd Gen. forum before but I simply can't resist respoding to this one.

I really hate to trash someone's new ride (even though it is 12 years newer than your old Max) but man....a C-A-V-A-L-I-E-R ?

I hope that you were an educated shopper when you bought this car...because what you paid really looks high to me. It is on an OLD platform ...been around for what....7 years? Look at the condition other Cavaliers that are 3-5 years old are in. Nearly every one that I see has dents in the trunk area and apparently the metal thickness or engineering isn't very great. Not to mention resale value...especially if you mod. Gonna take a BIG hit there if you trade in 3 years. After 5 years it's not worth the dirt on the tires. Oh, and lets see, what about safety? A few years ago the Cavalier and Sunfire were deemed some of the least safe new cars...doubt that has changed.

For example you could have bought a 3 or 4 year old Maxima with 40,000-50,000 miles for what you paid (or less) for that Chevy.

Please everyone...forgive me if I seem harsh. I really hate to see people spend their hard earned money on vehicles that have proven themselves (in my experience) to be junk.

It's not how fast you get from point A to B...it's how comfortably you get there. What if your cavalier is faster? A whole 3/4 of a sec ain't gonna kill anyone. THe guy in the maxima probably didn't know how to work it. Btw, he probably wasn't even racing.

Yeah... why am I still here?

This place is full of ignorant fools like yourself with the exception of a few (Da-Max, Craig B, PrinzII... a few others).

Soon as your 3rd Gen hits 200,000 miles... looks for me, I'll be laughin at ya as I kiss my 50,000 mile mark. Drive your old car, keep beleiving it'll never let you down. Once all the little things that these cars are known bad for start going down, who's gonna be the one spending the big money on fixing it up?

When you spend extra loot to hook up a stereo but your bose is a pain.
When your fuel injectors go out, again... and again.
When your transmission bends over and moons you figuratively at 90,000 miles.
When your digital clock quits working.
When your window regulators need replacing again.
When your stock alarm goes wacko on you and you cant go anywhere for a little bit.

So many little things make the 3rd Gen maxima a POS. I loved it to the death... but then I got a 2002 Z24. Basically even game to the 3rd Gen in Performance, but wait... Its smaller, lighter, newer...Hmmm????

Bring It!

Guys, he just spent a boat load of money to buy a new car. It's done. Just be happy for him and reserve the neg comments to yourself.

But in light of this latest quote, I have some comments. Beat Junky, I've had great luck my car so far. Although I had to do alot of mechanicals, the car has been flawless for years now. The paint is excellent and the enterior is still in super shape. My 92se Ve has outlasted a bunch of cars already. ie.. seen them come and go while my max is still going strong. There are cars 1/2 as old as my max that wish the still looked 1/2 as good(or ran as fast/well). Just my 0.2 cents.

Well, Here I am son. My car has 217K on it. What do you say about that? No problems what so ever in the past 2-3 years. And that was a water pump. Well??? I just ran my car a few months back with Gtechpro with 2 other people in the car. With a dial in weight of about 3300lbs. And the result was a 15.768 not bad for that many mile huh? And I am sure I will have no problem dusting off your Z24 since I make easy kill out of the sunbirds. And I am not ignorant and Craig B would be glad to tell you that. He is a good freind of mine. I just see where this post is heading and that is with a bunch of angry Max members like me. If you want to love your new car that is fine. Just take the Max POS off your sig and get on. Nobody wants to see you talk smack about our cars. If I recall you once loved them yourself...KICK ROCKS!

BeatJunky is a cool guy, he obviously likes the cool peeps around here, and he probably liked his max. From his For Sale messages, I'd have to agree with him that HIS max was a POS, and I'm guessing that's what his signature is pointing out. For just the same reason you're getting mad at him (we love our cars) he's getting defensive. People shouldn't be dissin on other people's choices.. just my 2

OK, I contradict myself. Sorry, I realize your Max might of been a POS. But you=ignorant in your last post for flaming on the Max. Listing the problems that "SOME" have. I can go on listing problems cavaliers have. We will wait and see what your cavalier will look and run like in 10 years with 217k on it???

Things that make you go "hmm..."

No offense Beatjunky... but to think that the 3rd gen Maxima is junk, because you had MINOR issues with your car @ 200k + miles and 8 - 13 years... is STUPID!! (yes, all but one of those issues that you listed is MINOR) Cars break, and you really can't EXPECT 100% flawless service out of something that is THAT old. Honestly I don't believe you will find the reliablity that you are looking for in the Cavilier either. I don't have anything really against the Cavalier, but they don't exactly have the best reliablity in the industry (in fact I believe that last time I checked it's was on the lower end). It doesn't take but one visit to www.j-bodies.org to figure this one out. Here are a few examples:

Are J-Bodies REALLY worth keeping??

My 5 speed '99 Z24

Help! Tranny Broke #$#@#

2000 Sunfire GT Problems...

Ok... well that should be enough to prove my point that all cars have issues, and your new one is no exception... in fact give it a few years and it will likely be worse than the Maxima was.

Anyway, I sincerly hope that you enjoy your new car and that cool smell that you only get with a new car :-)

Take care,

Doubt that it will be worse than the maxima buddy.

That Maxima had 13 owners, 2 engines, 250,000 miles+... it was used and abused and I didnt want the junk any longer.

I think all you people dont started to mess with someone just like you. I was a fellow maxima.org member... hell, I am a fellow .org member. A Maximaniac to say the least... who went and got something that I feel is a lot better than what I have. In fact, it is even very damn close to what all of you own and wanted to share the story.

If someone dissed your car, no matter what it was, would u turn pussie and eat it? No... So dont expect to me to sit back get my *** chewed on cuz I bought a car you dont like.

Id love to take you bashers to the track someday... would be nice to see the face you'll make!

To the non-bashers... good to have some back-up. We're surrounded by idiots.

they aren't idiots just "die hard" Maixma fanatics like you once were. Everyone sticks up for their car and everyone says "yeah my car can whoop your car", thats just natural, I do it, you do it, we all do it! so I say just shrug it off, no need to argue! its kinda silly when you think about it...guys driving 15 and 16 second cars arguing about whos fatser.......it really doesn't matter! now kiss and make up

this pep talk has been provided my DA-MAX, bringing drivers together coast to coast!

I don't think these guys are just diehards... more like Afghani Maxima fundamentalists I just realized, BeatJunky NEVER said anything bad about Maximas. He said several bad things about HIS maxima, and DrMontz was on his ***! Also a lot of people attacked his choice of car, and he had a couple of messages defending his choice, without attacking them... I dunno, I prolly shouldn't get in the middle of this, but it's just kinda a strange fight..

Ok, I didn't realize the history of your Maxima. But let me put it this way: if you put the Cavilier through 13 owners and 250k+ miles... I don't think it would be in as good of shape as your Maxima was. I just don't believe the quality is the same as a Japanese car. This being said... I'm a BIG C5 Vette fan, and given the choice between a Q45, S4, or C5... I would go C5 every time... even though the interior on the C5 is poor and even if car has "issues"... I still would choose the Vette.

I'm not sure that I qualify as a "basher" but I'm up for the track challenge :-) Although it really wouldn't be even remotely fair...

Take care,
