rear disc swap done

yep went to the j/y found some great struts, rotors, etc off a 91 se...as weird this may sound.

no 98-94 gxe w/ rear disc or 92-94 se's

also grabbed the hood, "ram" bar, bumper for johns new pathfinder.

he did my swap while i installed his bumper then we finished up on my car.

and MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
the brakes are "new" car touchy and they stop twice as better compared to drums...even stopped better than my old ve.

LOLZ "twice as better".

when your money cushion builds up again go find some 89-90 ones and take the mounting plate for the z31 rotor mod, and report back to us....

i have 2 pairs of rear struts. 89se and unknown-year VE, so i've got everything i need for the z31 mod but the rotors and pads themselves. yet i still have the drums installed on my car.... tranny work is first priority. then suspension and brakes.

Nice job stillman. I still dont get how an improvement of 100% could have precipitated from this swap, the rears do roughly 20% of braking, so theoretically if these new discs improved the rear braking power over the drumbs by even 100%, thats only 100% of 20% for a maxima improvement of 20% overall, but i cant judge, both of my gxes have 4 wheel discs, so maybe the improvement is vast. I might be missing something, either way, how long did the swap take stillman.

Drums at this age in our cars are most likely Dead and never were maintained. But driving with bad rear brakes and new rear breaks will easily feel dramatically different.

I don't know where you get the idea that the rears do 20%.....

damn thats what i wrote...
sorry but she does stop better though.

i thought 89-91 had the mounting plates.
because john said i can do the z31 swap now.
so i guess i have 89/90 rears then.

and kevin i don't know why but the rear drums, wheel cyls, and the linkage was all done.
but after the swap the pedal feels VERY touchy AND she does'nt nose dive now(struts are from se) and she handle those corners real well.

the swap took about 2 hours.
becuase on the old metal brake line had froze so john torched it.
and the one of the sway bar bolts had become one with the rubber bushing.

Nice stillman, touchy pedals are nice, exept when theyre crazy touchy like in all of the focuses ive driven. Glad your getting your VG where you want it.

And Goon, the 20% i got was an estimate, the rears dont really do much of the braking, the vast majority is the front brakes. I dont know about 20% but Ive always heard its between 15-25% and that seems reasonable and correct.

you need 89-90 mounting brackets and 91+ tq members and calipers. I THINK. I won't know for sure until i mess with mine. but just having the 89-90 stock maxima setup doesn't seem like it would be a whole inch different from the later stock maxima setup... i can't think of any way to add the space for bigger rotors without mixing and matching parts from different years. it's just that MOST 3rd genners are 91-94, that is, twice as many as are 89-90, by basic proportion, so MOST people would need to find those brake parts, whereas i have an 89SE and some struts off a VE. all of them have the same parts, just they were made differently.

the actual math shows around 65/45 for daily driving and 80/20 ish for full-on braking. the bias starts with equal hydraulic pressure (but smaller pistons in the rear) and then leans more towards the front once the brake system pressure hits about 500psi.

Well then, i got it right for the most part, IMO the full braking % is more important to me because thats the difference between possibly life and death of me or a bystander or me hitting someone vs. stopping in time.

john said all i would need is the 92+ rear calipers from the max.
so i think i would need 300z rotors,pads, but 92+ calipers??

Improvement of 100% is easy to achieve multiple times - starting from zero

Discs are nice, but you need a buffing on that ol paint of yours

and to the guy that builds suspension and cant do math. Its not like parallel links need to be exact copies or anything

Got banned for real short time, deserved it (read the rules), and yeah, took it like a child.

I was being sarcastic. I work at a tire shop and they do alignments there, and have a new digital machine, every spec in tenths and hundredths of a degree. So I know how exact things need to be. Just poking fun at your addition/subtraction skills
