91 GXE that leaks when tank is completely full. Possible diagnosis(s)?

 

Check the vent hose and the fuel filler hose off of the tank. I had a similar problem and it was caused by an old / dry rotted vent hose. They are towards the back of the tank on the fuel door side.

Exactly what he said above, when it happen to me I too thought it was the tank. Instead it was the vent rubber hose, I think it's 3/8 diameter

 

I know this may sound weird, but, what part of the country are you in, or where did your Max come from? There was arecall on certain 3rd gens for rusting and rotting of the gas tank due to road salt and debris getting up in there in the back....I don't know the full story or the details but look it up on like www.carpoint.com and look up recalls on our car. You may be able to get it repaired for free if it falls under those circumstances.

 

That recall has to do with filler neck rotting b/c of salt and dirt getting stuck under the tire well. If this is the case nissan will repair it for free.
