Cool idea....side markers on when reverse is engaged

So you know how the side markers light up the side of the road while turning? Well, I have tinted windows and I thought it would be really nice to have both of those light turn on while I'm in reverse, so I know where the front of the car is while parallel parking at night and such. Is there any wire under the hood that gets voltage while the car is in reverse, so I can tap off of it and give both side lights power? I don't know if it's been done before, but it would be great to have.

TCU pin 20 is up at R. Goes through this inhibitor sw connector 'under filter'...

However, if you dont cant distinguish front from rear, scrape the win tint off, take a nap until u can...

Note2: These features belong into so called Police stimulator -category... WYSIWYG

Lol, thanks for the tip wiking. Usually I don't have a problem distinguishing the front of my car from the back. However, the way my driveway it set up I have to maneuver my car between a brick wall and another car to get out. If the sidemarkers lit up that area, it would make it much easier to see if I was going to hit my mirror on the wall or turn too sharply and clip the other car. I've been doing it for a year already...I'm just saying it would be easier if those lights were on. I usually just roll down the windows, but it's still hard to see in pitch black.

Oh, and I have a 5speed. No TCU.

Have you thought about installing a light onto something to light up the driveway? Might be easier. Just a thought

you can have my TCU not that it'll help. in that case grab the signal from the red/black wire on the switch harness on the tranny. that's even the best way since you'll be up under the hood at that point anyhow... closer to your destination.

sigh.....I only want to know if there's wire under the hood that gets power when reverse is engaged. I know I could install a light on the garage, but that's besides the point. I'm just saying it would be nice to have lots of illumination on the sides of the car while reversing...is that OKAY with everyone?

I love you all.....

cadaver - do you mean the reverse neutral switch at the bottom of the trans?

In my cars, be it manual vanagon or whatever, rear panel has pair of bulbs starting to glow at R. This glow means electron flow from here to there.

One may suck parasite flow from there, and use it for any purposes. Or one may follow the wire under the hood, to the tranny manipulator switch causing this effect. This effect is in all cars (99%) havin a tranny, manual or any other type...

why not rewire the corner lights so the light is always on full bright. that seems like it would be easier. i'm pretty sure there is a writeup around here too. maybe craig's website.

it's really no tougher a mod than any other basic light rewire. i'd just be wary of letting too much juice run down any given wire, so i'd want to make sure that either the power source i selected had enough wire and enough fuse to withstand an extra 54 watts, or, a direct pull from the battery stuffed through a relay. i was hoping for a pre-1992 FSm page of the stock corner light wiring setup so i could properly find a power source wire (namely, the one that powers the corner lights during turning anyways. it's different on the VE-era cars (whether it's a VG or a VE) in some aspects of the wiring, so a different approach can be taken depending on the year of the car.

I think that would make more sense too, especially since you want it for at night when your headlights are on anyway. Right?

issue with always-bright corners is blinding. they are unaimed. i've seen other cars with them (crown vic, cadillac, 4th gen, etc) that have them, and they are really bright b/c there's no aiming, so they are like high beams.
