ask your shops for a quote. they would know better than us. like Brian said, depends on the quality, as well as the amount of prep work, what all needs paint, if its just a respray, or a color change, etc., etc.

right.. it depends onhow deep you are going. Are you fixing dents? replacing panels? just a scuff up and paint job is cheap id say material + about a day labor and your talking 500+ depending on type of paint....Single stage, 2 stage, 3 stage, Flat paint, Metallic paint, i could go on n on n on... i work at a body shop. Id say no matter what your talking over 1000... labor isnt cheap... and it takes a while..

By the way it was Maccos promotion of half price for painting my whole car with the same original color. They said its better to keep the same color when I asked for another color.

I asked about a jet black paint job for my 93 SE. This would include a good clear coat as well (the car is already black), but my estimates were between $1500 to $2000 at the majority of body shops.

I hear that, but so long as I live on a college campus, a good buff job is about all that I care to do right now...

What about learning to paint it your self, or at least doing the majority of the prep work? That way it would be cheaper to have it actually painted. A guy I know around here does a really good respray for around $800. Maybe Michael can chip in. He's the painting Guru.

i hear rolling out paint (with the same majority of prep work) is fantastic, google it, some people couldnt roll paint on their car, but a 50$ paint job that looks great is good in my book.

I would keep it a silver color. Metallic paints are usually stronger than flat paints, unless you were looking to get it painted a metallic black, which would be another story.

Macco Paint Jobs Suck!

If you REALLY CARE about how your car looks, and you plan on keeping it, DO NOT-- I REPEAT-- DO NOT get a Macco paint job. I got one of their "top-of-the-line" $865.00 paint jobs about fifteen years ago, and it started peeling off in sheets three years later. No kidding. THANK GOD it
wasn't my Maxima! They never even scuffed up the original paint before they shot the new paint! (I know this now, because I can see 25% of the original surface where it has peeled!) I went with the same color, and now that I can see "before" and "after", THEY DON'T EVEN MATCH! Caveat Emptor, dude! You get what you pay for. It's cheaper to take a painting course at the local community college, buy your own paint, gear and rent a spray booth than to pay someone else to do a bad job. Only downside: Your time.

what about if you prep it yourself and just let them spray the coats on? my paint is intact for the most part, but is disgusting due to all the stains and clearcoat cracks that have collected dirt during our "wash your car and go to jail" drought that we had.

if you're willing to put that much effort into it, you may as well go full monty and paint yourself. then you can have some satisfaction, knowing you did it yourself and can do it again. you also would know the quality of the products used, who to blame if its messed up, and can be sure how well the warranty would hold up

painting is only half the battle, it's the fun stuff afterwards of sanding and polishing that are the real fun.
