I normally call it an acceleration contest or stoplight drag but I'd rather not be misinterpreted here as some sort of careless reckless 18 year old driver.

i mean, we've all done it... some faster than others. hell, just tell the cop you were "performing tests to verify the effectiveness of your new ypipe"

Yeah, the people on yahoo answers all have gone faster than me. I saw a question like what was the fastest you've gone and everyone who answered had been above 100 but me. I wish I could say I had been but I don't like to break the law even though on occassion I do, but I do not weave in and out of traffic much less overtake it most of the time which to me is way worse. I'd rather not have to speak to any cops, sometimes you hear about a nice cop but all the stories involving cops worth telling always end in big fines.

wow. for once i HAVE done more dumb stuff than someone. I'm one of the tamest drivers around, but on one occasion i made my car to 110mph on a road whose TOTAL length was less than one mile.... my brakes overheated (down hill stopping) and i blew through the stop sign (T intersection) and stopped with 5 feet of asphalt between me and a tree-lined ditch.

My girlfriend would consider me tame, my mom doesn't mind driving with me, and none of my brothers is scared when I drive (except the one time some dude was in the wrong lane coming straight at me). However since I tend to use my brakes pretty late some people who drive with me complain, one of which is a stupid blonde who my girlfriend was with when she blew not one but THREE red lights.

tho one question about the ypipe i have is... for tamer drivers who never really bring the revs up... does the wsp STILL give better mpgs even if it takes a small amount of low-end torque away? i don't usually go past 3000rpm unless merging uphill onto to a highway that bridges over the surface street. if the surface street is the bridge i usually shift at 2700 to get down onto the freeway.

Good question, I don't honestly care that much since I know my Y pipe spent more than half a decade on an island surrounded by salt water and then another bunch of years in normal conditions and the thing is darned to rust someday, after all I know my muffler's outside has some rust spots on it (I'd have replaced it already but I'm worried about getting one that is too loud - I want something under the 95db or whatever that is legal, heck the lower the better as long as it doesn't rust, look bad or sound like a person with duct tape wrapped around their head (like the stock one does IMO).

I am one of those who didn't car for the WSP y-pipe. i had it installed on VE4 along with a UDP. To me it felt like a serious loss of power. it is a mod I will not be repeating on VE #5.
UDP was a much better mod IMO.

Finally got my warpspeed y-pipe. Unfortunately I wont have time to put it in this weekend. Ill take care of it next weekend. Came with all gaskets, decently packaged and if I send my old cat back, they'll refund me $50.

Well guys.. I dyno`d my car yesterday. The machine dont lie. I got a total of 3HP from the last time I ran it 6mo. ago. From 152.5 to 155.5 @ the wheels. Only changes I did was the y-pipe and an OBX throttle spacer ( for KA24DE). I was a lil disappointed. =/ To top it off,I LOST 15 pounds of torque. On a brighter note.. gas mileage went up about 8MPG. With the fuel prices here in CA, I`ll take the trade off.

something wrong must have happened then..... what were the air temps before and after? most people get an added 15hp....

I dunno what the air temps were. But it was in the 70`s here in L.A. I`m kinda clueless as to what coulda happened

How was your torque on the nuts? If they were not properly torqued, you may have an exhaust leak.

I hope there was a glitch in there somewheres, because 3hp? -its gotta do better than that. I do know that on my GXE, a y-pipe change and new stock catt made a great difference. I never dynoed, but I noticed much better mid-torque, and didn't see any low end loss. It was definitely worth it.

The JDM motor for my SE just arrived today. I had bought the ypipe and cat a long time ago, they're still in the box. That's the next thing on the list, and I'm confident it'll make a big difference.

Why is this thread scaring me again? I want to buy this y pipe and people have to say its lowering performance, guess its time to scratch it off my ebay list....maybe I should just take off my stock y pipe and try to figure out how to make a better one using home depot parts.

Eh....my engine has been rather quirky since I've started playing around with the air intake. I really badly want to have this cone, some nicer looking piping, ram air hood (that would probably be a first for us 3rd geners right? XD) and etc. My old problem was constant misfires under 4000rpm and current problem is the same thing but it only happens sometimes for the first 2 minutes of a drive and thats too much for me cause I'm a perfectionist.

Still, I want to be able to spend $200 on a part and have nothing bad to say about it.

well if your engine runs like turd, then the ypipe won't matter too much. but home depot stuff is NOT the way to go... it's not designed for the heat, flow, fitment, and is just plain un-American. or something like that.

It doesn't run like turd most of the time, most of the time it runs better than a 14 year old engine should. While I do agree with you that home depot is not the way to go I could probably make my own y pipe from some steel drain pipe or something and case harden it in my machining class which should bring the durability up and for alot less than $200

you need a flex section, and your flow will be absolute garbage if you start using drain pipe, not to mention the WEIGHT you will be adding to the car, and the fun you will having flanging it to bolt up to the exhaust manifolds..
If you really want to make your own Y-pipe, you can buy the flex section and most of the pipes to bend yourself from me, or a local Napa / Carquest / Gus's auto parts and grill. Heck you can even buy bends already bent to save a little time too.

Yeah it would probably be pretty heavy since most people use aluminized steel rather than pure steel, then again it might be lighter than stainless steel.

I wouldn't use the pipe like it is though, I'd probably bore out the inside with a near mirror finish and hope that makes for better flow and for additional weight savings I'd probably put all the straight pipes on a lathe and cut off a good deal of steel.

I really don't want to make one myself but I wish I could get a better one without you and gamera saying it did nothing for you. I'm not inclined to pay $200 for a extra large paperweight.

I didn't really think about using auto parts store crap cause they charge out the butt for anything like that (hah! want me to pay $50 for intake piping for my $25 filter? fat chance!) and I'd probably end up close to $200 for an even less likely to work y pipe.

sounds like a LOT of work for minimal savings.
The pipe worked, I just didn't care for the loss of low-end that I perceived with it.

but keep in mind, he's a VG, so the low end is plentiful... it just needs to breathe up top. so it would be better. even so, custom-fabricating a ypipe probably won't cost any less than $200.

Tho I`ve had some small power gain and loss of some torque, It still was a good investment, being that my stock pipe started to have a leak and my MPG went up after the install. Dont get discouraged 3G94maxgxe. My car is Auto and has 167K on the engine. For all i know,my trans is starting to slip or my engine is weakening.I plan on a rebuild and a 5 speed swap in the future. One of my friends back in NYC had the WSP on his VG and it was a good improvement. But I know for a fact that my VE is getting tired.

Ummm....I've got an auto too and I sure as heck hope the engine itself is putting out 100% of its factory ponies cause I'd hate to be rolling on any less. I've got about 128K miles on it.

While my low end is plentiful thats why I don't drive a Honda. I would honest to god take the Maxima over an Integra Type R or pretty much anything short of a S2000 or NSX and even then I'd need another car since I have a family.

got my ypipe and cat bout three weeks ago love the deep tone and the snarl when i blip the throttle.i ended going with a flowmaster muffler its not loud at all at highway speeds. i did notice an improvement in power over stock. i just love striking fear onto those honda boys and the occasional mustang guy. just find a tunnel or an overpass and just tap the gas it just sounds like a beast you'll love it.plus the ol'girl is soon to be a five speed thats just gonna be even better.but i just need a lil help convincing the wife to get one on her 90se and yes thats a stick with a leaky flex pipe fellas help me out

Kountz...

tell the wife that the pipe helps to save gas and I think she`ll be convinced !!! I thought about putting a 60 series flowmaster on this car. ( my GXE had one) I know that just putting that on my GXE proved to make torque alone. I`m planning 5 speed swap also but locating a VE 5 speed car in a junkyard can be a task on it`s own.

My wsp Y install did no go as planned. I went under and soaked the nuts for 2 hours with pb blaster. When I tried to take a nut off the front connection to the manifold, the whole damn stud came out...ok, not so bad, atleast it didnt break. I then decided to take a nut off the rear manifold connection and it broke with the stud still in the manifold piece. I gave up after that point. Any suggestions.

it should have come with new hardware. if not, run to the hardware store, and buy some stainless ones to replace them.

Well it came with new bolts and nuts for the high flow cat. You are supposed to reuse the bolts from the manifold side of the y-pipe and obviously the studs that are on the manifold already have to be there in order for the y-pipe to bolt up. I dont want to break anymore studs. A friend of mine suggested a torch to heat it up.

I thought the bolts came out....
its been a while since i had the y-pipe out of my car, to replace the tranny.
if you use the torch method, make sure the left over pb bpaster is wiped off.
