For those familiar with 3rd gen 3.5 swaps....

I have begun to put together the parts necessary to do the swap but just needed to confirm a few things.

I will be getting complete timing chain, wiring harness, ECU, axles and custom motor mounts (w/ modified crossmember). Already have rebuilt tranny on the way and a spare VQ tranny just in case.

I plan on getting a Greddy SP2 for my 91 VG for a great price from an org member here. I also have a warpspeed y-pipe currently on the max. I will be getting VQ headers but would the VG y-pipe & catback bolt directly or would I also have to get a VQ y-pipe & catback at that time?

Thanks in advance.

Keith

first post, i only see one question: exhaust/y-pipe fit?
I sincerely doubt the vg y would fit. you may try to get a custom y made, so it couples with the vg cat-back.

fyi: only a few people have done the swap, and I haven't seen them on here posting.
there was a guy recently who did it, got it running, has a vid or two, but nobody here (as far as I know) has actually seen it being driven.

and I assume other Q's will come later?

and take a massive number of pics, and videos where you can. we like videos and pics. they are a good sfw alternative to ****. and get us just as excited (only not in a kinda way(no pun intended))

to AllMaxxedOut:

do not be discouraged. we have seen a vq in a 3rd gen, and while it may not be a practical mod, or a popular one, it is still interesting, and unique.

All that custom work and you're worried about the Y pipe?!

that'll be one of the easiest parts of the swap.

If you go ahead with it, please do a decent write-up! Some of us may be crazy enough to also try it in the future I do have friend with a totaled 5.5gen, so maybe.....

actually.... it would be cool for you two to start now, and see who finishes first! that way we've got 2 writeups instead of just 1

lol Thanks Matt. I'll probably be asking you questions about the simple y-pipe and the swap.

But yea just been putting things together piece by piece. I will be rebuilding the internals as well on the engine while I'm at it (arp rods/bolts, cams, head gaskets, etc.) but figured I would get started on it now so that I would have a nice winter project that could be finished hopefully by spring '09.

No problem. Once everything is in place to begin, I will post up prepping & progress of the swap.
