brake pad springs

So i noticed that on some cars, they have those little v-shape springs that you clip onto holes on the tops of the pads to spread them apart, but the maxima doesn't have them. If i can get a set would it be fine to put them on, or is there a reason why the maxima doesn't use them? I'd rather not use that sticky glue crap (brake-quiet) because, well, it's a PITA if you need to remove the caliper.

is there a problem with the current set up?

the car from factory didn't have the springs and they weren't making any noise...so why mess with it?

mine squeal a little bit on light braking. pads still have plenty of material on them. i thought it was my drums squealing but i have discs now and the sound hasn't changed so it's got to be the fronts. granted my rotors are worn down (18.5mm thick) but will worn rotors alone cause a light squeal in brake-tap situations?

i used the slidepin grease on the slidepins and on the edge of the pad where it clips into the retainer thing. the grease isn't there anymore tho, on the pad ends.

if it annoys you, you can always take it out again and regrease them, i think it is the disc quiet in the little red bottle.

only taking 1 more trip on this brake package ever again tho, so it's all good. as soon as i take my car for alignment i'm taking it back home and installing my BBK. but the bbk's pads have the springholes too, which is really why i was asking

it is OEM from another car, and i have them already and there's no springs. The pads have those little holes for the springs to go into... they just aren't there.

in the middle of the 4th gen they started using these springs so the 4th gen pads all have these holes but not all have the springs.

hmmm.. well i'm not using 4th gen stuff, but regardless you think using springs on a setup that didn't have them to begin with is a waste of time? I'm going to the JY on sunday and can a set of them in teh pocket on my way out...

For quite awhile I have had some squeaking coming from my front brakes. They don't do it at first when they are cold, just after they are warmed up with a few stops. I have the Q45 front setup. If I press on the brake pedal ever so slightly (not even enough to make the car slow at all) the squealing goes away. As soon as I release it comes back. It is VERY annoying driving in town. I pulled everything apart and regreased it with that clear brake lubricant in a tube, but it hasn't made a difference. Thoughts?

are your pads wearing evenly? perfectly flat?
when you pull it apart next time take a 80 grit sand paper and rough up the pad and the rotor some. then give it another shot.

clear brake lube? the stuff i use is a dark dark grey...almost black. i'm sure there's graphite in it or something.

be sure to use anti-squeal were the pad comes into contact with the caliper or if there is shims it should go between the pad and the shim it stops the micro vibrations from the pad rubbing on the rotor

yep don't think the pass side was to bad but more then likely the drivers side was a mess, a moron that doesn't care helping me just about slapped him when he grabbed a hammer to get the caliper back on instead of pushing the piston back, but yea you just need a little bit.

P.S. you should be able to get it in like a clear I'm sure I did for my 85 just about any parts store should have little packets of it for like a $1 or a bottle of the red stuff for a few more bucks

Hey Jared remember when we did the brakes on my 4th gen right before heading out to maxus? I think my pads had that spring and I didnt put it back on...

I believe it can help a bit of wear or reduce drag, when I installed all poly bushing up front I spun the wheels a bit and I heard some drag noise but didnt think much of it, sounded normal to me so meh.. Next time I'm down there I'll probably toss em on.
