axle and dust boot ?

I had my new springs, shocks and struts put on today and the driver side axle dust boot is missing. My mechanic, who is a old family friend, says the axle is fine but eventually it will go and there is no way to replace the boot without removing the axle. He also said if thats the case I might as well get a new axle.

My question is there a dust boot that can be put on without removing the axle?

And if I gotta replace the axle, will the se axle's fit without modification? And are they larger and stronger?

yeah, there are two piece dust boots for cv axles, but I can't vouch for their quality.
I would go ahead and replace the axle, because, depending on how long the boot's been gone, there may be fine grains of dirt in there, resulting in imminent failure.
vg-se and gxe share the same axle and can be interchanged; ve5 and ve-auto have different axles, and wont fit anything but ve5 and veauto, respectively

also, check out wiking's cardomain page. there is(or was, at one point) some info on replacing the boots with some one piece ones, along with instructions. check it out, and see if it'll fit your situation better.

if ur axle is in good condition then i wouldnt change the whole axle...just buy the dust boot, it comes with the whole kit and way cheaper than changin the whole axle...but u wiill have to remove the axle to change the boot....and if u get a new axle u will have to take the old axle again...so either way u r taking the axle out....then why not just change the boot and save some money.....

edit:VE5sp - AUTO is different than VG5sp - AUTO.....so make sure u get the right boot ( or axle if u changin the axle)
