Warpspeed Y-pipe/<--Best bolt hp on imho/ lightweight under drive pully/ fidanza lightweight flywheel. All can be had for under $1000 if you look around for deals.

After that, suspension mods are in order..

no such thing for the 3rd gen maxima. only ecu upgrade available is a remapping upgrade from JWT. Around the $600 mark for this.

lol
:ahem:
anyway, I concur with internetautomar, suspension, brakes, engine.
no use going fast if you can't stop faster.
anyone who disagrees must have been dropeed on their head, from the top of a tree, landing on an anvil, then had the anvil dropped from the top of the tree onto their head (or is a ricer)

ive seen people on youtube swap in the VG30det in the 3rd gen max, but i understand your working on a budget. i wonder how hard it would be to swap in a VQ30det motor in a gen4

The items mentioned to make the ve go a bit faster are just that "a bit faster" maybe 20 hp gain total at best, the stock brake and suspension systems can handle 20 ponies no problem.

Can't forget about CAI's for cool sound and a negligible low end increase in power (But you'd never know because all you can hear is your beastly VE growling at everything in earshot.)

You can also make a CAI from a 1993 Honda Accord fit with a few tools for like under $45.

I actually may have one for sale here in the very near future

PM me if you want additional information about either one

And OP...it seems you are looking for cheap go fast parts...and to be honest...the Maxima isn't a cheap go fast car...it takes work and money to get significant gains.

I'd also seriously listen to the others suggestions about suspension then go fast. All the power in the world (figuratively speaking) won't do you any good if you can't keep it going to the ground.

With that said...190 bucks give or take a bit for a warpspeed y-pipe is quite cheap and a WELL WORTH mod...no matter what.

As for those "hp" chips...think about it...fifteen dollars for 20 hp with a simple plug and play box...you KNOW they would be more money than that...if it sounds to good to be true...it ALWAYS is.

No, that is from another member: monstorc28- was here for a short while and displayed his VQ swap and then kind of disappeared. I guess he is still around, but rarely posts

Wasnt there a post with the identical question last month?
I recall someone saying the VE engine was very restriced in the factory, and there's alot of minor tweaks and mods you can do to "unlock" the engine to around 250hp naturally aspirated.....?...maybe I'm remembering wrong, or the guy was dribbling s**t, or both...?

TRUE....they couldnt fit big G in max so they made it E to fit it in....and wat do u think of next?.....these r very good engines but Nissan dumped them after jus using for only 3 years....and there is alot of factors invloved that why they did it....biggest one was that it wouldnt be able to keep up with latest technology for so long...like VQ is.....so u get the point dude...u can get more than 250 with alots of mods done to this engine without turbo....but who got the time to do all that serious mods? i m sure there will be a day in future wen VE horses will be released out of the magic JAR....

My understanding is that they figured out DOHC works awesomely, and that aluminium weighs alot less than cast iron....the VQ was born, bearing the best of the VE, weighing alot less.....?
arent the VE's and VQ's close to identical, apart from the material theyre made of, and of course the newer VQ features (outside of the block)....or is the VE more comparable to the VG30DE ...?

Yeah, you can make the 1993 Accord CAI kit + a 90 degree bend pipe work with a GXE.

best bang for your buck on the VE..is the Y-pipe

Warpspeed Y-pipe.
cold air intake
ASP lightened pulley
NWP thermal intake/throttle body spacer kit made from an org member.

port n polish
JWT ECU

IF 5 speed....
Fidanza lightened flywheel

if you just want to go fast, Throw a 50-100 shot of nitrous on there.
personally id fix the suspension, brakes, and do the other mods first.

I prefered the UDP to the y-pipe on my VE

HP means nothing if your car can hold it to the ground. suspension first, but if you want a noticeable change. Y-pipe or UDP both about $150 - $200 each

These cars handle decent with the stock suspension. Adding a few hp via a y-pipe, UDP and other bolt-ons aren't going to make the car a rocket far beyond what it is stock.

He asked about hp mods. I will also note that I got better mpg, especially when I put on the y-pipe. Before Oregon switched to mandatory 10 percent ethanol last year, I was getting 30 mpg on the freeway. Now it is around 26-27 mpg.

My car has most of the bolt-ons mentioned and the struts, springs and swaybar were about the last modifications I put on. I never crashed it or had trouble controlling the car before I added them.

well to all you guys saying dont upgrade the suspension..
IMO upgrading suspension allows your car to handle (maintain) speed way better than stock, no matter if you are stock or upgraded. That being said, having had 3 3rd gens, I would do mods in this order... Fidanza flywheel, Y-pipe, F+R sway bars , F+R strut tower bars, CAI, udp, phenolic spacers, LTB2, JWT ECU. If you get lucky enough to do all these , you will absolutely love your 3rd gen

Cheap and a big difference in handling would be to replace all the rubber suspension bushings. Controls arms in front and camber/toe links in the rear to Poly. This will really tighten up the handling and make getting your alignments easier to dial in.

You can add all the other crap later. But if I had to pick ONE performance mod that was easy to do, the Y would be it.
