Has anyone Ever looked into This
on the early model villager/quest minivans the oil filter location is quite different form the ones on the vg30 max. It became that if ur planning a turbo of some sort this may be the way to use thoose z31 headers without buying a oil filter relocation kit for clearance issue. It sit's right below the altenator in the front of the engine. I dunno know thought id share that info if it hasn't already

well concidering that its an oem part on another oem engine figured most who attemp to turbo there vg run into relocating problems well this gives them a way to look at different solution for those problem. if this can work on a vg30 max engine

Is what I did on both of my vg maximas when I turboed was get the oil filter bolt off a pathfinder. Screws right into block and mounts filter straight on the side. Nice to know about that would be easier for oil change possibly.

o and 2legal, whatever is on the z would allow you to use turbo manifolds from the z. the z has the filter on the passenger side, directly horizontal.

First, I'd like to say that turboing your Maxima does not require an oil filter relocation, as akurtzer57 has correctly noted. Plus 1 on Caped's comment as well about the oil pump. The Quest filter has to connect to the oil pump in order to have an inlet/outlet, and would therefore require a person to replace their oil pump to do this modification.
FYI, the oil pump for the VG turbo is different than the NA. Can't speak to specs, but there are different part numbers for the oil pumps on a NA versus turbo....I assume due to internal differences for flow and pressure. Nissan shows about 3-4 different part numbers based on factors of turbo vs NA and auto vs manual tranny for the z31. Just found out becuase I'm now finishing up having to replace my oil pump on my turbo Max. So, I have no doubt and without looking, the Quest pump is different and likely has insufficient flow for the turboed maxima.
Second, relocating the oil filter is not difficult. I found what I believe to be the perfect place for the oil filter, mounted right beside my fuel filter (via custom bracket which took maybe one hour to fab up). Others have found nice places as well, really just depends on how you have things set up. There is more room in the Maxima engine compartment than most think. Until you run intercooler piping, oil cooler, oil filter relocation, custom exhaust piping, down pipes....you really get an appreciation for the size of our engine compartments!![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Third, replacing the oil pump is a PITA! So, to change it JUST to relocate the oil filter...NO WAY. I would install 10 oil relocation kits with an oil cooler system before I would replace one oil pump again.
My vote: As mentioned.....MAYBE if doing a build and engine is out of the vehicle....AND you can verify the alternator bracket matches up. Otherwise, I say interesting find but waste of time.

As stated, several VG engines have a stud on the back of the engine that a filter screws directly onto. Since this is the same setup the Z31 had, its a very simple, cheap and easy way to relocate your oil filter for use with the turbo manifolds.
If you can't or don't want to bother with a junkyard you can pick one up from Courtesy Nissan for $5.20

I personally made an oil filter relocation kit (using the z31 bolt) to the front of the drivers side (close to where the quest filter would be) and I love it.
