I need soem advise for a better 1/4mile run

Ok guys heres the deal i went out last wednesday to my local test and tune to see if i could improve on my last years 16.8 1/4 mile run with my ole 3rd gen... made 5 runs and my best time was 16.15 at 83 mph. I was just wondering if there is any advise or suggestions to gain a little more hp for a 15 sec 1/4 mile time?? I already have a intake and fresh tranny with brand new clutch...i shaved off .7 from last year but i still cant seem to get into the 15's its sooo frustrating.....Any tips??

Look into a pulley and fidanza flywheel. Also what tire pressure you running. How about posting your slip.

lol yea nice suggestions.. rwd v8 is outa the question lol turbo probibly out of the question cuz there isnt a reputable shop around here to do a decent turbo setup... my wheels are just about the same size as stock but probibly a little heavier...i was thinking maybe the pathfinder intake manifold or a header...

i was running my tires a little slack when i went but there low profile so i dont think that helped.. i ran them at like 20-25 psi in the front...also the tires i have a wanli's and are a very hard rubber compound so they didnt really get too sticky even after i lit them up during the burnouts....O and thats one thing i never replaced when i replaced my clutch was the flywheel because it didnt show much scaring at all so i thought it to be fine..

when I said "tires" I meant something stickier.. Mickey Thompson slicks, on some lightweight rims. may itself shave .2 off your time, if you find light enough wheels (frees hp, due to lower rotational weight)

also, remove everything you don't need: rear seat cushions, passenger seat, door pannels, EVERYTHING from the trunk, etc.. Cheap weight reduction, but between the tires/rims/weight (assuming none of this has been done, yet) might get you in the high 15's

- Lightened fidanza flywheel
- lightened UDP
- exhaust? not sure if you have
- light weight rims, good track tires

many different options out there for more power. It all depends on how far into you're willing to go and how deep your pockets are.

yea i have a new stock exhaust from y-pipe back to the N1 style muffler so its kind of restrictive....i was wondering if any1 had any suggestions on a good y-pipe that wont break the bank...maybe even y-pipe back... i was thinking of putting a header on it i didnt know if there were any of those out there tho...i want to find a couple of 5 lug light wheels that i could put a set of slicks on...

your wasting your time/money with headers imo. warpspeed makes y-pipes for 3rd gen maxima, lots of people have them on here. I have the full 2.5" warpspeed y-pipe and back. I think it was around $550 or so, I cant remember, was some years ago. But thats for good quality y-pipe, less restrictive, and a performance cat and muffler. I also have the VE motor, but Im pretty sure they make a setup for the VG. Even if you just get the warpspeed y-pipe you should see some improvement, I cant say how much for the VG, but on my VE I was impressed.

http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm just make sure you contact them via e-mail or phone and double check your getting the right exhaust for your motor.

$589 shipped for y-pipe back. You can put it on yourself, Id reccomend having a shop do it just so you can have it welded instead of using those clamps to hold the pipes together. I hung mine myself then drove to a shop and had them weld, paid $60 or something for that.

well i have a stick welder that runs on 110 that i used to weld up the pipe adapters and muffler before and it worked well.....works on sheet metal up to 18 gauge i think but yea that warpspeed y-pipe looks like an upgrade in the near future.. thanks!
