so I learned to not use the vice grip method on the injectors. Its worked for me 6-7 times, and this time I broke some of the plastic off.
is this injector still usable? I know it worked and ohms out, but just curious if that plastic that broke off will affect anything?
sorry for big pic

It's probably fine unless theres a hole where the fuel under pressure will squirt out. I found the best way to get it out is to turn the rail upside down and support it in a vice, then I used a big sized centre punch, and hammered it out.
In an hr, I'm going to try the vice grips as the gurus suggested, to get those little screws out. Oh, on a side note, I found this product in my previous photos called, Rubber Care, and I sprayed it on all the brake hoses that felt dried up from 16 yrs. It seems to have worked temporarily...they softened up nicely and are flexible now. Company is called KLEEN-FLO who makes it.

Well - since fuel never comes into the top plastic part of the injector, I would measure its resistance to see if that was ok (no damage to coil wires), and if the injector was known to have been mechanically ok before the botched extraction attempt, I would seal up that hole with epoxy and see if I can re-use it.

luckily I have 4 good working injectors laying around, so I just threw one of those in. Damn parts store gave me the wrong pcv valve and I went to exchange it but they were closed, so I have to wait until tomorrow to button it all up. I did find 2 injectors with smashed lower(smaller ones) o-rings, car seemed to run fine, sometimes it would stumble upon start and then on 2nd try to start it would smell like fuel and spit out smoke.
im thinking of running my upper intake plenum through the dishwasher.
Greeny you said you've done that to clean it out. did you use just hot water or dishwasher soap too? or were you just joking? seems odd to do that, but if it works, it works.

Maximaman, did you put a little engine oil on the top & bottom o-rings before inserting them into the rail? It seemed to help alot, I had to use quite a bit of force to get them in, but I did a twisting motion like people recommend. Turn as you push. I also put a bit of engine oil on my finger to coat the inside of the port - so oil on both o-ring & metal.
I take it your going to remove the PVA if you put it in the dishwasher? Also what about the ASCD & Throttle spring thing, is that removed too?

i used petroleum jelly on the orings and just put the caps on and screwed each side 1/4 turn evenly until seated into the rail.
I have an auto. no PVA here. I have the throttle body remove, so none of that on the IM
I was hoping to get someone who has done it before to confirm if its safe to run in dishwasher, and if to use dishsoap or just water. no answer yet, so I have not done anything yet.

OK I got multiple confirmations on my ranger forum that I am on.
Its ok to run it through and use the regular dishwashing soap you use for dishes.
so im going to remove the egr valve and wwhats left on the IM and run it through.
gonna change my back valve cover gasket now and go get my pcv exchanged because idiot at shop gave me wrong one

Maximaman, I'm not sure if there is much benefit in cleaning the IM - unless it's for cosmetic reasons ie. the outside. Reason being, I cleaned the inside with varsol last year and it took a long time, to try and get that varnish and gunk out. Plus, are you sure that stuff is safe to be in the dishwasher - you do eat off plates and stuff, and that engine varnish could get stuck in parts of the dishwasher maybe.
It had never been done for it's life. Then, when I opened it this time to do the injectors 9 months later, it looks exactly the same as it did 16 yrs ago.

ran the back valve cover through and the upper plenum. it cleaned the im good, but not 100% clean. my runners were a bit dirty, now are alot cleaner.
ill work on my car for a few hours and go eat a sandwich without washing my hands. I think that being a dishwashers heats up to a temp to kill bacteria etc, ill live. If I start growing an extra ***** or something due to eating off plates ran in the contaminated dishwasher Ill let you guys know![laugh](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)
