overheating

its a 90 maxima problem is that the temp. hand climbs between the middle to the H but it only seems like it does this when going up hills reguler driving and idleing it stays in the middle.. anybody have any ideas on what it could be??

I would first try to replace the thermostat, since its so cheap and pretty easy to install. Then Put some fresh antifreeze in it and see if that helps. I had a problem with my thermostat in the winter. It would stay closed too long, therefore causing the car to take too long to warm up and with regular driving, my temperature hand would go all the way down to C on the scale, so i would recieve no heat at all. I changed the thermostat and that solved the problem.

You need to bleed the air out of the cooling system (very common issue with the vg engine after you open up the cooling system)

When engine is cold:..Jack up the front end as high as you can get it(atleast 2ft. if possible)/remove radiator cap/start engine, let idle while you are constantly topping off the radiator as it is running, until it will hold no more..

Note: you need to do this procedure until the the engine temp needle is close to mid way(yes, sometime during the process, coolant will "burp" out of the radiator, this is normal,it is the air bubbles in the cooling system coming to the top,and out of the radiator)

Yep, air pockets can and will develop any time you disconnect coolant lines on the vg..

lemme fix that for you...

I didn't loose any coolant, so i didn't see the need to bleed it..

doing the coolant bypass should cause a slight loss of coolant... it did when we did mine a few years ago.

When you fill it you should also take out the plenum bleeder bolt. I usually leave it out and run it while filling as needed until it burps out the air and has a pretty steady stream coming out. Only thing that sucks is you leak some coolant out onto the engine. I usually put some rags around it to catch what comes out.

i remember a member helping me out doing this.
i replaced the radiator.
we had her up in the air, coolant spilling out.
and still nothing.
the fans were running on high too.

i kept suggesting to remove the bleed bolt he said there's no bleed bolt on the vg.
i see this little stick beside a bolt that said : "do not open when hot".

i opened it anyway and BAM! antifreeze came out.
her temp went to normal...

people with aaron's spacer kit (or peopl that just bypass thir UIM coolant hoses) won't have that bleeder bolt tho. but as i stated above, i have had this bypass for 2 years, and my coolant bled VERY fast at greeny's house (and again a few months later when i replaced all my rubber hoses) without even barely lifting the car up. temps are perfect.
