egr removal
egr removal
i have a 90 se and i am in KY with no emissions, and before someone tells me to search i have. So here it goes i was wondering if you can remove the egr system from this car and not get a engine light? If anyone can point me in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated!!
WHY??????
do you enjoy damaging your vehicle?
shortening your engines life span?
and for the record, removing ANY emission equipment off a legally registered vehicle is a federal offense.

i doubt he actually understands what you mean by the first part... ib"butallitdoesisdumpdirtyexhaustinsowhydoineedi t"
who is it... WIKING maybe? tottaly supports removing the EGR i think that name is right...? but to answer the question of removing the EGR sans check engine light. yes, you can take off the EGR w/out the check engine light coming on.

tell me you're smarter than that. or else tell me you're sterile. do you actually know why brian was questioning your reasoning or do you just assume egr=evil without any actual factual basis?
woot - just do it if you want.
People believe that theoretically your cylinder temp could go up and you could have detonation problems if you remove the EGR system. Personally, I don't see how preventing your clean intake air from being replaced with sooty exhaust can possibly hurt your engine. For what it's worth - companies like GM sell the exact same cars in developing countries sans the EGR system. You think they re-engineered the engine in any way to make it "safer" with the missing EGR system? No way
However, yes it's illegal and yes it's bad for emissions/the environment, but if you want to do it have at it. All personal feelings aside, removing the EGR system is very common on all types of cars. There's even dozens and dozens of EGR block off/removal kits.

Some people think you get a small HP gain (you know the kind they swear by via the butt dyno similar to timing advances, tb coolant bypassing, etc.).
Mustang guys actually remove it so they can access the #4 spark plug
