Shift Lock/Brake Fuse burning out
Howdy everyone! Yep i'm still here. Still have the maxima, except now she's doing 160,000 and still running strong.
Today i ran into a little issue. My shift lock wont engaged. I read how to bypass the shiftlock by simply pushing the "white plastic thing" backwards then shifting. But my brake lights wont work.
I checked the fuse and its burnt, so i put another fuse in, 15A, that burnt too. I needed to get to work so i tossed a 20A just temprorary until i get home tonight..the shiftlock worked..then it blew right after again..so i called in. What should i check for? i just looked at both brake lights and the harness looks good. i dont smell any burnt wires in there...
sorry for creating another ****lock post..but i read about 6 of them and no one had a recurring burnt fuse issue.
Thanks everyone
Khemraj.
Edit: Read more post, and suggest i'd look at the brake lights. All bulbs looks good. No breaks inside of them.

Update:
Cause: Bad Light harness.
How to diagnose (ghetto style).
1/Unplug both rear light harnesses.
2/Install the new 15A fuse.
3/ Start car, press on break and listen for the clicking sound under the shifter. (if yes, then its a bad tail light(brake light) continue reading..if not sorry...)
4/ Turn off car. Plug in only (1) rear light. Repeat step 3, and have someone verify that the one rear light is working. Turn off and on car, pump the brakes..make sure its working...
5/ Unplug the working light and do the same on the next rear light. BOOM..it should blow the fuse. Theres your problem. Unplug the rear plastic housing and remove the 2 light bulbs and inspect the inside for burnt or melted contacts. PLACE and or fix and also replace fuse and you are good to go.
Hope this helps someone
Thanks
