Mitsubishi Galant weighted shift ****

Just an FYI for anybody looking for a nice, leather OEM-ish looking shift ****. I'd been looking for a couple months for new shift ***** for two of my VE's. I wanted to go with the AE shift **** but they're about $60 ish now, plus they're pretty crappy. Mine is peeling and it's only a few years old. All the other universal leather stock-ish looking shift ***** I'd found were outrageously priced.

I came across these from a dealership selling them on eBay. The auction listed them as Sentra, 350z, and "virtually all other Nissans", but apparently they're actually Mitsubishi units. I got them today and realized they're Mitsubishi units, and after some quick research, it looks like they're a pretty popular thing with Eclipse guys. Apparently it's really an OEM GSX ****, but the identical **** can be had as a Galant optional **** for only $14! You can't even buy a cruddy universal one for that, so I bought several of them

Yes, $14 for a nice weighted (and I do mean weighted, it weighs just under a pound), leather wrapped OEM shift ****. It also looks a good deal like the stock **** except it's wider at the base and has the markings on top.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm pretty excited about my find. I'm sure somebody will jump in saying they already knew about this or whatever, but yeah, anyway, here's some pics

have you tried it out yet? do the threads get "snug" at the right spot in the ****'s rotation for it to be facing dead-ahead? linky to where you got them?

see the 3G maxima shift **** fits exactly on the z31... so this is still relevant to my interests

I put it on the blue VE and it is certainly snug enough. I didn't screw it all the way down as far as it would go so I'm not sure if when it 'bottoms out' if it would be facing proper, but nonetheless it is certainly snug after only a few turns so it will stay just fine wherever you point it.

I don't have a link to my auction, but it was Bruce Titus Automotive Group on eBay. I paid $16.xx some odd on ebay, but in my research tonight I found out this is the place to order from (i.e., best price):

https://www.mitsubishiparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html

Mitsu part number mr263906

Looks like it's now listed as $15.02, but still..

I think it looks pretty damn good for what it is... I'd def rock one considering I have a shiny plastic one and not leather wrapped. I want the AE shifter but I've heard lots about the fading and peeling and it IS kinda pricey. I'd order it but I kinda want an STS first. Thanks for the heads up

Cool, but I a) don't visit/read clubfrontier.org and b) didn't see anybody post it here (and see nothing even with a search now), so I truly did come to this on my own, even if it's not original/new

yes they do, and if you search through this forum somewhere in the last 6 years someone did an appearance swap so it looked like a manual shifter on his A/T. I did not do it, though I did like how it came out, and was going to do it.

Nice...I just ordered two, one for the '91 and one for the '97 which has the fading AE ****. I like the leather better than the AE ****, it's too slippery on top.

Yeah, I have a new shift boot from Redline for my "new" black VE

The shift boot in my original black VE is only a couple years old from Redline as well, but it has silver stitching to match the AE **** (which is falling apart)

I'll have to get a new shift boot now for the blue VE but I need to get that one going first. I'm just waiting on a few little parts for it and hopefully will have it driving this week

actually that would be pretty simple to do... remove the rubber part of the a/t shift handle and swap the shroud out for a leather boot, then just put the leather shift **** on top of the button thing on the top... push down on the shift **** would be the same as pushing the button w/ your thumb. then just wire the overdrive switch up somewhere else and you're good to go...

excellent find. If I ever need a replacement for the AE, I will have to grab one. My AE hasn't peeled, but the numbers on top are getting faded.

I also have an STS, but it was cut and I have a couple of different bolt ons for it. I just never installed it.

ya done good my friend, if that fits/threads on nicely then its a home run

i think i actually shifted better with my worn out stock **** versus my AE **** - i was afraid to clench and grip the AE **** since it would speed up the wear on it

How far do the threads go up into the ****? I want to know if it will sit lower than stock or will it be the same/higher?

Any pics of it installed on the car?

The threads go in pretty high, but not all the way to the top because that's where most of the weighted section is. I haven't measured but just by "feel" I'd say it's just a tad higher than stock.

Thanks. I just ordered one last night. If you can get a pic of yours on the car that would be cool. I lost my stock shift **** so I cant compare it.
