Another Window regulator question
Another Window regulator question
Sorry, I can't seem to find the proper thread that would answer this. I found all kinds of threads when I searched 'regulator'.
On 8/16, I unlocked my 1990 VG30 5spd and the factory alarm went off. I had to unlock the passenger side to get it to turn off. I thought that was strange. I haven't been able to do it again.
Then on 8/19, I rolled down my windows after work to cool it off. I waited a few minutes to take care of some calls. When I started the car up and tried to roll the windows up, the passenger front wouldn't go. I tried the passenger door switch and that failed, too.
I figure it's just a bad regulator, but I haven't messed with them... since I had my other Maxima. My brother and I were able to roll the window up by plugging a laptop power supply and some pins into the connector; I may have ruined the power locks when trying to figure out which 2 pins were for rolling the window up. The power locks don't work anymore. I'm hoping it's a blown fuse or because I left the passenger side switch unplugged. I know, I should have researched the pin diagram but I was tired after work and just wanted to get the window rolled up.
Before I buy a new regulator, can anyone assure me it is a bad regulator and not something else? When I try to use the window switches, I can't even hear the motor trying to work, but we were able to roll the window up. I see regulators pretty cheap ($25) on ebay. Before this happened, the window went up/down fine; fast, like a new car. My driver's side goes down fast but goes up slow.
Anyone selling those plastic pins that hold the door panel in place? I broke one in the process.
I'm also in the market for some rear calipers and some instructions on how to detach and connect them to the hoses. I've never did that type of work before. I've already researched how to rebuild them.
Thanks in advance. In the meantime, I'll keep doing research.
Hey there. Not sure if you've already resolved your issue or not, but I just recently changed my "regulators", and here's my input, FWIW
did you check your fuses? look into the fuse block area below the steering console just above your left knee when you're in the driver's seat.
Just to be clear, all a "regulator" is, is a pulley-system that moves the window pane up and down. It's merely a mechanical system and has no electronic parts whatsoever, hence the "cheap" cost.
The Regulator & MOTOR assembly will cost a little more (IIRC, the motor adds about $50 more?).
So, before you go buying a regulator, I'd suggest you confirm your window motor is working or at least the wires are in ok-shape (no exposed wire, or disconnected, or broken, etc).
Also, you can remove your window pane from the regulator (the mechanical part along the regulator rail) and try to move the motor - just keep your window switch plugged in and the power plugged into the motor. Try to actuate the motor via the window switch... if the motor works, then you may need to inspect your regulators to make sure there's nothing tying/blocking it. BUT! I just recalled that you said you don't even here the motor working when you try to move the window via the switch.
Maybe you can unplug the power plug leading to the motor and hook up a VoltMeter to it to see if you register any power to the motor. In that case, it could be your motor.
BUT!!! you should also check your driver window switch panel. IIRC, if that thing is out, all of your windows will be dead. I have no idea on how to "check" the driver side main window switches... sorry.
Also, I know this may sound lame, but make sure you don't have the "Window Lock" button on the main driver window panel in the "ON" position.
Good luck!

My locks stopped working on my 94. I had to wiggle a wiring harness that is underneath the drivers side (maybe I unplugged and it too). I don't know if oxides built up or what, but I never had the problem again.
I think it was just to the right of the steering wheel if I remember correctly (sold my 94 last year).

my car is exactly like that haha, for me if you lock the door by accident with the doors being open, and then open the door after unlocking it, the alarm will go off , and if either have to use the key to unlock the door to turn off the alarm or on the passenger side, As for the window regulator, i remember rolling down the window when one day the window just fell down hella quick, luckily i caught the window before it fell down fast. i dunno what my dad did to help fix it but, all i know is he used a hanger and jb weld glue and its been working ever since. my driver window and the back right window were the 2 that failed on me. As for the button to roll the window down, its failing on me too, i gotta reach over to the passenger side to put the window down LOL -_- fail.l

Sorry for the late follow-up. I was able to get the windows and power locks working again. It turns out that it wasn't the regulator, but the master power window/lock switch on the driver's side. I bought one off ebay for under $30 from hoosierantiques and the windows and locks are back to normal.
I guess being able to roll the window back up was a clue that it wasn't the regulator/motor. Thanks for all your responses and I hope this thread helps others out.
