i know this isnt 3rd gen related but i never see you post anywhere but here or audio so i fugure you dont look in off topic, maybe you or anyone you know has an answer for me. how much do you think this will cost me in repairs worst case senario for 4 wheel drive on jeep cherokee. i figure if i get this ,i could fix 4x4 system and windows and paint wood panels black it would be decent ,but my main concern is the 4x4 noise this guy hears ,read his decription

my guess is that it might have a blown bearing or broken gear/axle inside the transfer case. it's most likely going to need a complete rebuild on the transfer case, if not the tranny also (140k miles on an auto is a lot!)

my tranny rebuild on my MAx was $850. an auto tranny rebuild on a max goes from $1200 to $2500, depending on severity of the problems... that's as much as I can tell you, but I would plan on spending EASILY $1k to fix it up, and that's before paint. It'll definitely be a project, but I'm sure you know that arleady.

(and you're right, I usually just check the 3rd gen board, Midwest forum, and the audio forum. every now and then I'll check the for sale or general forum, but that's rare... I don't have enough time to put up with most of those idiots!)
