NA VG30 makes over 220rwhp in Z31

I was surfing Z31.com and came upon this link but you have to register to see it. It shows a VG30 dynoing over 200rwhp NA, basically his mods are 12:1cr pistons, bigger valves, custom IM, ported heads, cams/springs + gears, 75mm TB, intake, header and exhaust. You'll see his power holds to 6500rpm as well and peak torque is around 4800-5000pm! The same mods to a VG33 could easily make over 240-250whp!

220HP FWHP in a FWD car this size/weight happens all the time (heck look at aaron92se's car) but i guess you mean in terms of how much that special VG would cost for putting it in a FWD car vs a turbo setup or vq swap.. amirite?

Yes, that much HP (700+) would be a catostrophic failure in the Maxima. I simply wanted to paint a picture of the VG itself being capable of far more than what most of us could even dream of regardless of its usefulness in our vehicles.

When will anybody finally do a AWD/RWD conversion on a Maxima, so we can start actually putting down some streetable HP!?

because the front wheels are too far back for you to mount an engine in the front and expect ANY kind of weight over the rear wheels. it'd still handle like a FWD car in terms of understeer and you wouldn't have enough traction out back to put down any HP. not unless you used like... a mazda rotary motor or something. if you want a RWD maxima you HAVE to either move the front wheels about 15" forward.. or reinforce the rear and put the engine in the backseat/trunk. otherwise it's pointless.

well yea i meant the 85+ maximas. some dude is putting a rb26 in a 4th gen (almost done now) and i am almost 100% certain that it won't have any of the nice handling characteristics that we expect from properly designed RWD cars.

Good comparison pic (note space between front door and front wheel well)

Or just use a M30. I mean, at some point people have to realize the maxima is/was a great sedan. But it's not really worth the pain of a RWD project.

or an infiniti J30 with a crapton of weight reduction and a little custom work for a m/t swap. bonus is that the car would already come with projector headlights.

Ahh, the good ole Civette. I used to follow that build thread on HT

I think he even put the Corvette dash in there, which sticks out ridiculously far , but still

yea but look at the engine. they pushed it WAY back into the firewall. if you want RWD in a FWD car that's the sort of voodoo magic you have to do. if the whole engine is visible out in the engine bay it's gonna still have FWD-like weight balance and thus handle mostly like a FWD car. the civette most likely handles like a RWD car due to the position of the drivetrain farther back in the car.

exactly, i just posted it to show that it "can" be done but prepare for the amount of time/work and money it will take to get there

heres the build thread for anyone interested in seeing it
http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...pical-car.html

the LS4 in the late model FWD montes, impalas, and grand prix would be a better idea, but the problem of left-to-right frame rail to frame rail distance comes into play, among other obstacles

bht that would still leave it as a FWD car. if you want a fast FWD maxima then turbo or vq swap make alot more sense than a v8 swap. the game changes when you're dealing with RWD cars like my z or whatever, but on the maxima i think a v8 would be overkill... even if it would clear the frame, which i kinda doubt it would.

AWD would probably be decent but RWD would fail, you would still have understeer because of the design. if anyone wanted to properly make a RWD 3rd gen you would have to completely overhaul the car as in over $20,000 of work to make one properly RWD (mount the engine further back, etc etc). Honestly i would just convert the car to RR layout with the engine in the rear but still. a guy DID convert his Integra to RWD but from what i saw, the drifting failed because of again understeer

FWD builds are good for up to 400hp-500hp, anything more you should go RWD. theres a reason JoeBoost made a crazy 3rd gen but never went RWD

you and your jdm nonsense

def not using an RB... or a boosted motor for that matter. and i would HATE RHD simply because i can't fathom shifting with my left hand and having 1st gear AWAY from me. even if i were left-handed it would be weird.

i'm doing something a bit more like this (tho hopefully i can find the aluminum block version seen a few posts up ):

lol thats wicked. Z31 with the headlights down always look sleepy/high

i prefer driving on the right, especially stick. prefer it for drifting too and downshifting quickly when drifting. dont own a JDM car yet but my cousins friend has a JDM R32 GTR, getting a R32 myself but probably a 4dr R32 GTS-T

one step ahead of ya. it's a long-term project so i have plenty of time to worry about the particulars. first thing i gotta do is just get the suspension on the car back up to par then i'll worry about the rest of everything else.

I'd definately do a LS1 to a Z31. They are cheap enough to justify the extra weight savings of an aluminum block. Just try to get the newest one you can. I believe the LS1 had running improvements before they went to the LS2

motor is pre-86 induction system is later. No MAF, no cold start tube.
