Windshield trim removal

Does anyone know how the windshield trim is removed? My windshield leaks. I want to pull the trim off, remove some of the silocone sealant, and replace it to fix the leak. I tried gently prying the trim off, but I don't want to break it. Does it just pop off or am I missing something?

wheres the leak? if its at the top, just remove any prior sealant and put clear silicone on. the previous owner of my 3rd gen put black silicone on the top of the windshield where it meets the roof because it was rusting and leaking, i just took off the black silicone and rust, and put some clear silicone on wtihout touching any trim. if its leaking at the sides i dunno

I can't give any advice on removing the trim, but I can strongly recommend flowable silicon. My current 3rd gen had a pretty nasty leak around the top passenger side of the windshield. All I did was slowly pour the flowable silicon into the troublesome areas until it quit seeping inside, wiped off the excess and let it cure. It was a super easy fix since the flowable silicon keeps moving until it can't go any further, thus finding and repairing the leak.

That's a good tip tresboi. I need to replace my windshield. Considering you guys say it's easy to get to 'the gap' would you attempt the whole replacement yourself - or just go to a glass shop to get it done?

The replacement is beyond my scope of knowledge, however I can give you a few good methods I've discovered for removing the glass (throw a manhole cover through it, drive a motorcycle over the car, sledge hammer, etc.)

I'd love to find out how to do a proper fix though.

Here's the info I collected today, from calling various glass places. The cost to replace the VG windshield, includes the side trim thing replacement:

APPLE AUTO GLASS (KIPLING AVE) $295.00
APPLE AUTO GLASS (LAIRD) $375.00
APPLE AUTO GLASS (BIRCHMOUNT) $320.00
SPEEDYGLASS $390.00

It's more than I thought.

Also, I forgot to add the guy said if rust caused the crack, the new windshield will eventually crack the same way. I'll have to take some photos of where the crack is so someone can comment on how I could repair it in the spring.
