P/S problem

Well obviously like any other pump a P/S pump works or it doesn't. Now i have hard steering sometimes(when I turn the wheel it sounds like birds chirping), and I was just wondering can a overtightened or worn P/S pump belt be the reason why? I've checked the fluid and attempted to bleed and that didn't solve anything.

it's pretty common for a loose or worn belt to slip/chirp when you turn the wheel. check the belt and its tension first before messing with anything else.

agreed, if that doesn't fix it the bearing could be binding a bit and causing the pulley to slow or stop movement enough that the belt chirps but then the belt breaks the binding free and moves on, though this usually would be noticeable all the time even when you aren't turning. On top of that you could look at the pump and see it doing this, just play with your throttle cable on your engine while watching the PS pump and you should get some sort of answer, might even see the belt moving from being either stretched of not tightened properly.

Problem was the belt so I changed it. The steering is fine now, but when I would turn the wheel all the way sometimes it's like a little scratching noise is this a tension problem.
