Is it normal for car to run rough after injector installation?
I just got finished installing 2 fuel injectors(VG injectors) in my car today. I noticed that when I started the car, that it ran with a steady put putt. I made sure everything was put back togather and connected properly. I can drive it and it goes away a little. I also noticed that when I pulled the spark plug wires, that 2 of them still had the metal part the sits on the spark plug at the end of the wire, still connected to the spark plug. I dont know if this would cause any problems or not, or is this normal for the car to run like that after installing fuel injectors.
to answer your question, "is it normal?" yes, because something was missed, improperly installed, etc. wouldn't be surprised if that happened to me...
SHOULD it be happening? no.
Well I drove around to 3 places in the car, and still the same symptoms. It seems to take a little longer than normal to start. I really didnt have the time to replace the spark plug wires because I have a set of spare ones in the trunk. I will see if that is the problem first thing in the morning. By the time I was finished putting everything back togather, it was dark outside, and this is the first time I have ever changed an injector before. I did put vasaline around the o-rings, put a little pressure and a twist n turn motion upon installing the injectors in the fuel rail, but they wouldnt seat all the way, So I just put the cap screws on them and turned each one an even amount until it was flush enough. I was even surprised that the car started after I installed them(LOL) But after driving around last night, the car continues to go putt putt, and it can either be that I installed a bad injector or the spark plug wires are bad. But I will check it out in the morning. I also replaced my sometime leaky fuel rail hoses with some new ones.
turns out its not the wires, but the first injector I installed, the second one works great. I will tackle this project in the morning. Does anyone know what cleaning solution can be used to clean that build up of oil and fumes on the adapter plate thing? The first injectors pintle cap was missing, But I dont know if that would cause it to not work correctly.
No I used OEM used injectors that I got from a VG fuel rail of similar design injectors. I got like 4 of them. 2 with pintle caps and 2 without them. Mine are green dot, and the other ones are yellow dot. Hope its not too much of a difference because they are the only options I have for right now. I am in the process of tearing down everything again
to replace that bad one with another one that I had, only thing is it doesnt have a pintle cap.
Update: I figured out why the car was missing so bad. When I tore it down again today and took the first fuel injector out, the bottom O-ring was pinched. So I grabbed another spare I had in the trunk, and lubed it with some vasaline and also put some inside the fuel rail, put everything back togather, I did manage to break some vacuum lines and the upper intake manifold gasket broke, but I did manage to put it on all the way, and also some of the broken hoses. I fired the car up, and I can barely hear it running! I will replace all those parts first thing in the morning. She drives great, and there is no more hesitation or unstable idle. I have never changed an injector before, but thanks to this site, I was able to accomplish this complex task myself! I would have had to pay someone at least almost $200 to replace an injector if I went to a shop. Now on to the most complicated job of all, the heater core!lol
