full gas tank leak? an oxidation?

91' GXE
The tank leaks when it is full. Possible diagnosis and am I able to fix it or should I bring it in?

Also, anyway to get rid of oxidation on the side molding?

Thanks a million,

John

filler neck may be rusting away...see if u had your recall done.

oxidation..if it's light..get some polishing compound and start rubbing. if it's heavy..respray will be needed.

Yeah there is a TSB on the filler neck

It said that crud and/or salt can build up under the rear tire and corode the filler neck. Nissan should replace it for free!

It could also be one of the rubber hoses that connects to the tank. I had the vent hose go bad on mine. Similar symptoms to what you are descibing.

Good luck,

Check out nhtsa.gov for info on the recall.

BTW - I had the same problem as Brian (leaky vent hose).
