89 Maxima engine project.

I would like to buy a block that would fit directly into my 89 maxima. And over this winter, Build it up. Bore, polish, cams, turbo, everything. But i need to start by finding the best motor stock for a 89 nissan maxima. Anyone know what motors would be a good start for me?

D15B2 would be the best engine for your project, without a doubt

Yea i know mine is a good engine, But i would like to drive my car over the winter, and it might take a while to get done, because i plan on spending a lot of money on this motor, so in case i dont get it done soon i still got mine. maybe i could even sell it after.

as in one of these lawnmower engines?

really VE30DE is the next possible choice, but its little gain for the work.

another option is you can use some VG33 parts

basically i think youre stuck with the VG then. 3rd gens are probably one of the worst cars to engine swap, theres no kits or anything to swap engines so youre stuck doing custom work. 240z and other cars you can easily get RB20/25/26 kits to swap engines, same with SR20DET and 240sx.

a few people have done the VG to VE conversion, and one guy paid a garage to RWD swap his 3rd gen, but i dont think anybody has swapped anything but a VG or VE into a 3rd gen

Um piece together a turbo kit. Take a weekend to install and tune. Do a compression test and leak down test on your car. If all checks out upgrade clutch run a mild setup make 300whp. There is no need to bore and all forged internals as the vg30e are capable of making 450+ on stock internals as long as tune it well. The trans in these cars are very weak. Have you read this?

Feel free to pm if need more info on what is needed. If serious can send you out a full kit for the right price.

i cant stand Hondas, they did right with the NSX and S2000, and i'll give Crx a prop for pwning lots of cars in autocross, but otherwise i dont like Hondas

i still lol at people who import RHD Civics, i mean if youre going to go to the trouble of it may as well get at least a Integra Type R or something

Thats fine with me. I just did some lookin around, and a VG30ET sounds nice, but are they hard to get? if anyone knows how to get one let me know

check junkyards. off of the top of my sleepy head, you need the exhaust manifolds, turbo, ECU, oil lines, piping, and a few other things. plus, you should get a intercooler.

if youre serious about going turbo, Big E Dog in the 2nd gen section can get a full kit for a good price.

if you want to use the whole engine, im pretty sure you wouldnt need alot of modding to use the older style VG30E, theres just a few small differences between our VG30E and 2nd gen/Z31 VG30E.

or im considering buying a turbo Z31, using the engine parts for my 3rd gen and dropping some other engine into the Z

Im just having a hard time getting the idea of how the manifold would work lol you cant even see them stock, plus running a down pipe????? seems like a lot of custom work....

its not a ton of custom work because its coming from basically the same engine, but read on how turbos work first and understand what everything does

i want to turbo mine myself, hence why i want a 240sx or something soon so i can take my time with my 3rd gen.

Oh i know how they work fine lol. And ever research electric turbo's? i know a lot of people dont even wana hear about it. Not like ebay blowers but something like the E-ram, or similar models, that have tests done, and i dont think id mind if it was on my car haha. There pretty crazy, some PROMIS 6 pounds of boost, not just 6 pounds away from your vac. So i might look into it and spend 200 bucks just to see, not much to lose.

But You said you were selling your maxima for 2500 and getting a skyline for $2000. Also you said you already hooked up a electric turbo...cough a fan.

those "real" fans suck more juice than the alternator produces; that is how they manage to "work"
ever research electric turbos?

having worked on a few hondas, I would say it's almost a direct swap.
may have a few issues with wiring, as the honda harness goes in on one side, and the Maxima... well, you get the idea.
you would need to modify the AC lines, but the power steering will bolt right on, with little to moderate hacking.
I also recommend flipping the intake manifold, should add a few extra ponies, due to better follow.
one note: don't worry about the motor mounts, they will just get in the way.

so basically what you need is a stock SOHC engine for a 89-94 maxima.

fail. factory VG30ET has lower compression.

and WTF Skyline can you get for $2000? the cheapest i have ever seen was for a red automatic GTS-T that had the front right bumper damaged and the front right headlight blownout. after i think a year and a half of trying to sell it, he said fk it and put it for $2500. the cheapest Skylines are R32 GTS and theyre $4-$5k in running shape, cheapest GTR you can get is a R32 for $5k with a blown engine. $2k youre looking at a good shape S13

those electric turbos do nothing. even doing a turbo properly, youre going to run into problems. doing a electric turbo or halfas5 real turbo will just give you problems

check Ebay, or check junkyards around you. here junkyard turbos are $60, doesnt matter if its from a Skyline or a Z31 or whatever. Ebay you will most likely get a bit raped on price but you should find one for under $300

I dident say a skyline lol i dont know where that came from, it was a chevelle SS for 10K. But i dident wanna say anything and start another convo. But yea, a half azz turbo will give you a LOT of problems, but a electric turbo, will just cost you money. They cant really cause problems??

those $900 ebay kits are garbage. the turbo will last, oh, 1,000 miles and **** out.
you would be WAAAAAAYYYYYY better off going to the junk yard, getting a z31's turbo stuff used.
and it woudn't cost but about $250.
