3rd Gen Header Change

I was wondering if anyone has changed the headers on there 3rd gen max's? If so have you had any problems with the change over. Cause I am in the process of re-constructing my 89 maxima and was wonderin if changing the headers would cause problems.

Thanks.

Changing them to what? Another stock set should be no problem.

"headers" proved the same gains as a a y-pipe on the 4th gen. maybe just porting and polishing the exhaust manifolds would yeild additional gains on top of a y-pipe!

Yeah sorry man, I'm 99% sure no one makes any tubular exhaust headers for any 3rd Gen Maximas.

Try searching for "headers" or something. Someone once said he got a quote for having them custom fabricated but the price was crazy.

You could get some old stillen headers for a 90-96 300zx and have the modified to fit your car though. Now its not exactly 100% bolt on but you'd have your headers .

You know what the funny thing is? Stock 3-gen exhaust manifolds are already tubular. If you take off the heat shields, the flanges are cast iron but the tubes are well.. tubular.

what I was thinking was to get some headers for the Z31 and copy/modify the design for the maxima. I know the Z31's have a choice between pacesetter, MSDS, motorsport auto headers. It probably wouldn't be hard to convert. Maybe I'll do it sometime next year .

Very interesting... although you really don't know how consistent or smooth they are on the inside, being castings and all.

It'd be nice to get tuned length tubular headers (I hear you can get nice power from those), but it'd probably be a tight fit.

I have someone who will custom build the headers, down pipe and pipe all the way back for 900+. not over a grand.

It's going to be hard to have a true "tuned" set of headers because the rear pipe has a much shorter downpipe length than the front set. It's the curse of the FWD transvers mounted V6. I'm not saying headers won't make improvements but I'm saying you can't have a tuned set like the V6 RWD Nissans to or even the BMW inline 6s have.

Who's needs headers anyway?

headers for a third gen

did anyone try searching? i think a few weeks ago there was someone who installed a set of aftermarket headers from a New Zealand company. it was actually headers and a y-pipe. they do exist but you should just get a y-pipe.

yes..emax, 4th gen..
so no they don't exist unless it's 100% custom.

Thanks everyone this gives me somethin to think about. I think that due to the fact that my maxima has 278000k on it and I am goin to do a bucnh of mods and reconstructive surgerey to the car that I might want to change the headers. Just cause I would like everything to be nice and new. But yeah so far not luck in my search but I am still looking.

Thanks.
