Car stalling/shutting off while driving

Ok, so this is an issue which is a bit difficult to replicate, but nevertheless happens and the frequency is increasing. Couple of days ago, it would just happen at a red light (only did it twice). Now it's happening more often just driving it around the block (had to restart the car 3 times at a stop sign). I had noticed that the clip that holds the MAF sensor plug was loose and that the contacts had some corrosion. I cleaned up the contacts and plugged it in right, and the car ran better. It still shut off on me, so I bought some MAF cleaner and some electrical contact cleaner. Car really responds better, but it's still shutting off on me. I've also noticed that when I'm WOT in high speeds, the car stutters. It's not a consistent climb up the RPM's; it surges. So any ideas as to what it is? I'm not getting any codes, and like I said, the problem is hard to replicate, but it usually happens when I'm right foot happy. The car has shut off while idling and while driving.

Tried to get a video and the car ran fine. This is beginning to become a nuisance.

i had a similar prob like that and ended up changing out the knock sensor and injectors. come to find out the knock sensor was cracked which was causing shutter after high revs. it would also make my light come on as well. maf could also have a leak, crack in the housing, or just going bad.

This car has new injectors (not reman) and a new knock sensor. I know what faulty injectors feel like, this is waaay different. The car is firing on all 6 cylinders, but has some hesitation climbing up the rpms and will stall out when I slow down. Its irritation because it seems to only happen to me; my brother or dad cant replicate the problem. I'd like to think this only happens when the car is cold, which could explain why it only happens to me.

if it only happens when its cold it cold be the idle air control valve. have you put a new temp sensor on it? the iacv is effected by the temperature of the coolant. if it dont read right it can cause problems also?

I'm pretty sure the temp sensor was replaced when I overhauled this motor about 13k miles ago. At this point, I have no idea wtf to do.

I had something similar with mine. It would die when throttling heavy. Engine check light would also come on.

turned out to be water in the ECU !!!!

^if the car shuts off intermittently see if you can meet up with someone and swap MAF's.. the maf kept my car dying every so often, and chugging along at other times.. replaced it and bingo never came back.

Tried to find a MAF at a u-pick, but it seems that ALL of them were missing. I've looked up symptoms of a MAF going bad, and it fits all of my symptoms, including trouble starting (an issue I never used to have before I overhauled my motor, I guess that was a sign). So I ordered a new one online; hopefully my purchase won't be wasted.

Believe me bud a new MAF is not a waste at all no matter if its your problem or not, my car use to have a shuttering problem when i accelerated because of a loose connection on my maf wire, the clips on both sides of the plug were broke so i cleaned the sensor out, plugged it in, and put a zip tie around the whole maf and plug to hold it in... no more problems also i have a 5 speed so i dont knwo if my problem is the same as yours but i had a problem also where i would put the shifter into neutral when i went to come to a stop and the car would fall all the way down in rpm untill is shut off.... ended up being a little tiny broken hose on the front of your intake right above where your intake comes out of the plenum...

My car shutting off isn't the rpm's going down, it just cut off. Like there wasn't enough or too much of something (probably fuel; if the MAF is bad, it can't tell how much fuel to send) so it either choked or drowned. Believe me, I have been hunting for any loose hoses or connections, and this seems to be the only likely cause at this point. I hope things turn out good.

Slapped it on today. Haven't been able to replicate the shutting off problems after a few quick drives. Need to take it on a nice long drive to see if it happens again, but I'm pretty sure that was my issue. Wish it would've fixed my starting longer than normally issue, but w/e.

hows the max runnin now man? i'm hoping that solved your issue... i'm currently experiencing the same problem and i've been digging through these forums like crazy trying to figure out what could be... changed my plugs and checked my coil packs today and it still cutting off on me. i've only had the car for a week and i'm hoping to get this problem fix already.

I personally think these issues are coil pack related, even if they're crack free and ohm out correctly.

Are you in the Houston area? If so, there's several VE guys down there, so you might see if you can somehow persuade someone to borrow/swap coil packs (all 6) with them and drive around for a few days and see if your issue goes away (or even if they then get your problem).

No I'm in austin. I do have a 4th gen though. Do the Vq coil packs fit the Ve? Is so I could swap those out for a couple days...
