94 SE q's and quick sell for 89 GXE

First of all I was looking into getting a new Maxima. I know that the 92-94 SE are known to have VTC problems. I was also told that Nissan corrected this problem in the 94 SE model, is this true?? Is the tranny the same in the GXE and SE models? (Auto)
Finally for anyone interested, I've got an 89 GXE for sale cheap. The car is stock except for suspension, Eibach Springs and Tokico Struts ( 1 year old). The car is in very good condition inside and out, but has high mileage, 300K (about 200 miles). Color Burgundy. Everything works great except for the A/C, condenser is leaking r-12. The car runs great, never had any problems and the tranny is good, never abused this car because I needed it to get me to work and back reliabely. I'm looking for 1500 Canadian. By the way I live in Toronto, On.

Thanks

Re: 94 SE q's and quick sell for 89 GXE

I have a 94 SE and the VTC's started to chatter. When they got really bad I took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole assembly. The mechanic told me they don't replace just the springs anymore because they go bad pretty quick. The new assembly is supposed to be re-engineered and stronger. I had also heard that the VTC's were fixed in 94, but mine went bad.

I read, either on this board or somewhere that Nissan fixed the VTC problem for the 94 SE's. If not I might just get a GXE.

All years from 92-94 have been known to experience VTC failure. Given that, IMO it's still worth it to get a VE powered Maxima. I wouldn't give mine up for anything short of a BMW 540 6-speed.

I have a 92 SE 5-speed BTW.
