i was wondering if its bad for my engine to take it up to 5000 rpms in first?

all 3rd gens had 3.0 V6

theyre built to go to that RPM, of course its not good to redline it all the time but the odd time is fine, thats what theyre built for. unless something is wrong with the engine, no harm really.

Wow, so you have an '89 SE 5 speed with only 70k miles?

That's pretty awesome. Got any pics? I bet it's in fantastic condition

meh i would worry about it more with a Civic because of how crappy their stock cooling system is, if your engines in good shape nothing to worry about. just dont constantly floor it or anything stupid

you cant easily do coilovers on a 3rd gen, you would have to do alot of custom work which would be a few grand, if you want to go low get Ksport GT or Intrax springs

one guy has coilovers for 3rd gens on ebay for $1000 but hes probably been trying to sell them for a decade now, i dont think anyone has even attempted coilovers on 3rd gens

you have no idea how many people on the site would give their left nut for you cars shell

i got my Ksports for $240 shipped IIRC, 2.2" front drop and 2" rear drop, Intrax are a bit more of a drop apparently.

its better if you get some Tokico or better yet Koni struts with the drop, but both have been discontinued for 3rd gens so you would have to find someone parting out with a set which is rare. i just dropped on KYB GR2 struts

lol vg's wrap out faster then ve's. I go to beginning of redline and shift but I also spend like $70-80 every oil change and only run full synthetic oils and flush my motor every oil change and use syntec oil stabilizer lucas. as well as various other things i do. cant wait to get the final pieces of my suspension and get it titled back to my name and registered and tagged to take it out to thunder valley and see what i can run in a quarter mile. on a litely tuned set up.

you don't need super aggressively low springs a Maxima can do just fine and probably ride good with a 1.2" drop like Eibachs. Granted they run like $360 plus shipping and tax lol

wut? i was told Intrax are lower than Ksports, but Ksports are lower than the ones in that ad

the Z31 reference isnt taking the whole engine, you can turbo a 3rd gens VG with Z31 turbo engine parts. you need the turbo, exhaust manifold, piping, oil lines, a intercooler, etc

I have yet to see a set of coilovers for a j30 chasis maxima. I frequently see a31 chasis (Cefiro) coilovers sold as maxima (89-95?)parts.

Get them, that's a great deal.

Intrax springs are rare now, too. My blue VE in my sig is on Intrax. I haven't seen a pair of Intrax springs for sale in years.

Dude. Intrax ARE lower than Ksports per photo evidence. Intrax is a 1.75" drop (regardless of what that CL ad states). We talked about this already several times

The issue is that the Ksports you bought were for SOME REASON listed as being a 2.2" drop, which is (obviously) inaccurate. Now, either the actual manufacturer has the drop listed wrong, the auction listed the drop wrong, whatever - but they're definitely not a 2.2" drop. Now, just because your Ksports were listed as 2.2" drop doesn't mean they ARE a 2.2" drop (again, pictures of your drop are obvious it's not 2.2" drop).

For some reason, you continue to believe the Ksports are a 2.2" drop. Why?

And again, you wouldn't WANT a true 2.2" drop anyway. Trust me!

Thats a clean car. About the RPMs I take mine to 6800 rpms on a daily basis never had a problem, so going to 5k is nothing for a VG. A stock Computer wont let you go above 6200 anyways, and there is no point to rev an NA VG past 6k because power drops off quick.

Very true. I'll admit, I'd totally rock that VG. I love that color, and I don't think I've ever seen a VG SE in that color!

This probably isn't what you want to hear but there is some danger in revving high and driving hard @ 70k miles. You want to make sure that the timing belt has been replaced at some time. If you don't know, then do it because the original 21 year old belt could still be on there, you wouldn't want it breaking @ 6k RPM. And second, the transmission's front input shaft is going to break soon. Mine began it's deterioration process at about 90k miles and was drivable for another 7k or so before leaving me stranded. I'm local, so if you ever need parts or some work done let me know.

Well, considering you're a Civic enthusiast, it's hard to find a logical reason why you would actually refuse to drive a VG

I'm in Portland, I guess you're across the border, but that's local enough

Getting the belt checked is a good idea but you can't really check the input shaft bearing because it's inside the transmission, but it would be smart to replace the gear oil with some good GL-4 (Royal Purple or something) and hope for the best.

I just seen the same exact Max in my local JY, same color and everything, the shell was in excellent condition but they just dropped another car on top of her, what a waste. Anyway nice 3rdgen to work with.
