IACV Interchangeability...

Does the 92-94 IACV fit the 89-91? Everywhere I look, it seems as if there are two different part numbers regarding the IACV, specifying that the part only fits either the 89-91 Maxima or 92-94 Maxima.

I would assume that this part is a bit different between the VG30DE and the VG30E, but I'm not fully sure. Research leads me to installs, but no actual information regarding interchangeability of the part. I can't even get the right pictures so I can actually compare the two.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

You are looking at the IACV's for two different engines, hence the confusion...

First off, a little schooling about the year model differences..

89-91 SE and GXE models had the sohc VG30E engine...

From 92-94 the SE model changed to a DOHC VE30DE engine

While the GXE model continued with the sohc VG30E engine up through 94.

The IACV is the same on all sohc VG30E engines from 89-94

While the IACV is different on the dohc VE30DE engine...

VG30E IACV...

VE30DE IACV...

Greeny you forgot that the VE has two different iacv as well. The automatic and manual transmission have differences and can't be interchanged.

I meant the iacv for the automatic or manual transmission model. Not the transmissions. I know cuz i work at autozone and recently looked up the iacv to see what ima spend on replacing it.

Off topic just noticed that your pick of your truck engine you have dual alternators on that engine. Why dual alternators in a late 80's early 90's tbi 350 or 302?

Awesome information, Greeny. Easier to understand than any research I could find. I really appreciated it!

I was actually working on this IACV earlier today. Was a bit of a pita to get it out.. I noticed there was a phillips head screw facing the front of the car. Is that for adjusting idle or something? I turned it clockwise, but nothing really happened.

The IACV throttle control will only alter the idle rpm if the valve is malfunctioning, its used purely for diagnostics as the ECU determines mixture ratio and idle speed using feedback from the sensor array.

On a side note I think the person who designed the emissions control on 3rd Gen VG should be strung up so to speak.

What exactly is this difference? Ive never really found this out but im putting my motor back together so I figure now is a good time as any..

My VE is originally an automatic transmission car swapped to 5spd, I swapped in the 5spd ECU but did not swap my IACV and I never noticed a difference
