digital gauge cluster problems

whats going on everybody, im new to the whole nissan/maxima scene so be patient with me!

anyhoo, i have a question, ok so when the car is cold and i turn it on, the digital gauges nor the digital climate control display works at all, then after the car warms up, they just randomly pop on. what might cause this or be the problem?

Means that probably the power supply unit is taking a crap. Happened to mine about 2 years ago. You can either push your luck finding another digital dash at a junkyard, or just send it to the wizard. Takes a while to get your unit back (goes to Canada!) but it was very worth it for the price. A nissan dealership quoted me $3000 for a brand new display! The turnaround time was about 2 weeks, which isn't bad considering I live in Miami.

I don't ever recall any forum members who repaired digital dashes. Don't hold me on that though. And it's $250 with a 2 year warranty, so it's not so terrible. Considering the "rarity" on these dashes, it's worth it if you plan to keep the car for a while longer. I'm keeping my 3rd gen till it rots to the ground, so the dash repair was a good investment for me.

and another thing, it only stops working when its cold, but once the car warms up, the display pops on. maybe a bad solder joint?

Mine started out just like that. When it was cold (lol in Miami) the dash wouldn't come on for about 5-10 minutes. It just got to a point where sometimes it would never turn on, or stay on the whole time driving. It's the power supply sending unit that goes bad typically in these dashes. The guy will check to see what's wrong, and replace it. Plus he checks to make sure everything works.

Mr Wizard? $250? What a rip off. Anyway, I was out of parts when I fixed it, so I only repaired the dead display and didn't do the preventative fixes for cold start issues which I should have done. I'll tell you what, I'll fix it for chump change, or for free if you also want the climate control repaired, which I will give you a good deal on. I don't need the whole dash, only the power supply which will save on shipping.

PM sent.

I had no idea you repaired the dashes, Hectic. How much would you charge for the digital climate control? Going to be driving my 240 soon, so I won't need a/c in the maxima for a while.

So it's the whole dash cluster, climate control... and what about the HUD projector, does that have the same symptoms? I know if it was just the CC it would just be a bad/loose connection but if it is everything like you say than let Hectic fix it or find one at the JY if you can. Your probably better off letting Hectic fix since finding a 3rd gen Max with the digi dash is almost impossible.

Well, I have done a few for org members, and a couple for locals, but have put off advertising repairs mostly because I have been pretty busy working on my own car. But I have learned how to fix all of the display problems in the process, so I can be confident that I won't get stuck with a problem I don't know how to fix. I'll refurb your dead or dimming climate control for about the same price as a used one one ebay. And 1/10 the price of a new one (without a new enclosure) from Nissan. Shoot me a PM when you're ready to have it fixed

The dash cluster and climate control are independent or each other. It's not a loose connection or bad wiring, it's faulty engineering of the circuitry. Maybe done purposely to gain revenue for Nissan And yes, if his entire dash is dead, then the HUD is as well.
