VG vs VE and SE questions

Ok, so I don't have my 91 GXE anymore but having Z's I still look for Maxima's in the JY. I found a place that right now has 6 3rd gens, 3 of which are SE models, only one is a 5 spd SE though.

So my question is I seem to recall someone saying the VE was basically a VG with DOHC designed to fit within a FWD car. I know the VG30DE(TT) heads won't fit a SOHC VG due to difference in head bolts. So If the VE is that similar (unsure it even is, but based one what someone once told me) do the VE heads fit a VG block? I know they are timing chain instead of timing belt, but I'm more concerned with head bolts and valves lining up to pistons properly.

If anyone is interested in any parts off the SE's let me know, I'm leaving the area in a few days, they are located in south west VA. None of them have the digital dash or HUD, but the 3 SE's have the spoilers, white faced gauges, tail lights/reflectors, grille, 1 has VG with a 5 spd, one has VE with auto, the rest are VG auto. If interested in any parts send me a price you want to spend and I'll see if I can fit it within that. I may be able to get the parts pulled if people are interested after I've left, but they would be for pick up only.

I know this doesn't help a TON, but they look pretty damn similar.

top= VG30DE head I found online somewhere.
Bottom = dead VE30DE head I had in the garage.
It's long gone now so I can't get a perfect comparison..

My rebuild VE30DE being put back together:

I can tell you this though: bottom end dimensions are nearly identical. The VE30DE used the same bearings and rods as the VG30DE and DETT. I'm using VG30DE pistons in my VE as well.
okay, time to go home... tire of sitting here at work goofing off.

So it's essentially a timing chain version VG30DE, which means the heads won't fit a SOHC block because they used a different amount of head bolts. I'd really like to find a way of getting better flowing heads on a VG33 but being SOHC none of the DOHC options seem to fit. It was worth a shot.

keep in mind that the VE only came in a Maxima, due to head hight issues the VG30DE doesn't fit under the hood, so they made the VE as a half step between the VG30E and VQ30DE.

Question about the VG30DE pistons that you swapped in. Do they keep the stock compression that the VE came with (i.e. 10:1 atm) or do the VG30DE pistons raise the compression? Just curious as to why you would swap those pistons in
