Aluminum Radiator

I was sneaking around eBay when the aluminum rad got my attention...should I give it to the old girl?

Its about 75 dollars for the Aeon rad.. I think thats a reasonable price I mean its not cheap nor too expensive..what you guys think? This one could be just as good as a 150 dollar one no?

Eh.. I run the cheapest radiators RockAuto has with no issues in Texas heat.

What's the point of super expensive ones? Just so that the plastic end tanks don't break 5-6 years down the line?

Yeah tho anyone know the point? Do aluminum ones last A LOT longer? 6-7 years from now I don't mind replacing my rad again

Usually super high end all aluminum radiators are found in super built cars but I don't understand the point for a non-hardcore built 3rd gen

Alot of us are running the ebay ones, so am i. They are great and i don't see much of a big difference to an aluminum one unless your running a turbo. My oem copper one lasted a good 17 years though until the top started to leak.

Ahh I feel a lot better bout my radiator purchase. I was actually thinking the samething you guys just mentioned bout stock built and turbo talk..

Other then the upper and lower rad hoses I was considerin changin my thermostat too since its about time...would the coolant temp sensor sorta be in the same area of labor as what I just mentioned or totally diff location? Id like to see if it improves my idle

There are two coolant temp sensors one for the ecu and the other for the gauge. Right by the throttle body. Next to the fuel injectors.

Thanks elusive, are you famaliar which of the two typically cause that idle problem or Its recommended to just replace both..

I'm assuming both sensors are by the tb...next to the f.i's

Niether really effect the idle unless the one that is for the ecu is bad then the computer goes into fail safe mode to protect the engine from destroying itself. Idle could be that sensor, iacv, vacuum leaks. Depending on which transmission you have makes the difference on the vacuum hose routing as there are a few vacuum hoses under the intake plenum.

I am having my nissan parts guy find me a upgraded one for once I drop in the built engine I'm about to start on. Rather not have an engine damaged due to insufficient cooling system with a boosted engine.

You already know...never go cheap when it comes to High Performance Parts.

And the retainer(s) that goes into the mounting bracket(s) is susceptible to popping off. The VE30DE is a unique engine that had the shortest production off the Nissan line. I think it qualifies for something better than a $2 radiator .

Actually it was fine from what I remember. Went in without a hitch. Its worth getting if you really want an all aluminum radiator. I know by the price and everything it seems too good to be true, but so far so good for me.

You can kind of see it installed in the my engine bay

Well boys in the end I decided I wanted more for my money so I added fifty bucks and bought a 6 ton shop press, an electric impact wrench and a $29.95 eBay radiator ($59.95 shipped).
I just took delivery of the thing and guess what...it's all copper, there is no plastic anywhere on it. It's painted all black so I doubt the seller realize. Yes I scratched the paint to confirm my suspicion . Looks neater than the aluminum version as well.
