Can anybody tell me the stock specs on the Maxima. 0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, etc. I am trying to put together a comprehensive specs area for most imports. I want specs that are as realistic as possible, not what Moter Trend tells us. Thanks in advance

Well do you want the stats for the SOHC VG (162hp) or the DOHC VE (190hp) engine? The "SE" trim from 92-94 came with the VE engine. All other 3rd generation maximas (89-94) have the VG engine.

Times:

VG Auto: 9.8 Sec ~160hp 1/4: 17.3 Sec
VG 5spd: 8.0 Sec ~160hp 1/4: 16.3 Sec
VE Auto: 7.6 Sec ~190hp 1/4: 15.9 Sec
VE 5spd: 6.7 Sec ~190hp 1/4: 15.3 Sec

From MaxFAQ website:
The all-new SE-level engine remains a 3-liter alloy-over-iron V-6 similar to the SOHC VG30 series introduced in the '84 300ZX and still used in the Maxima GXE. But this potent offering is different enough to merit its own VE family designation. The VE30DE utilizes much common technology found in the present DOHC VG30DE (those suffix letters, by the way indicate dual cams and multipoint injection) engine of today's 300ZX. That includes variable valve timing and a direct ignition system, However, the VE shares no major common components , and its camshafts are driven by chains rather than belts. The engine block is stronger with greater rigidity, but the larger heads have their four valves per cylinder splayed at a relatively narrow 30 degrees to allow the package to snuggle transversely under the Maxima's hood. On SE's fitted with a manual transmission the engine also gets a variable induction system that enhances mid- and high-range power. To improve the noise/vibration/harshness characteristics it rests in a new strain of fluid-filled motor mounts.

These Numbers are from the MaxFAQ website.

hmmm.....

The VG 5sp sounds about right...but a Auto VG is much faster than 9.8......more like 9 flat...which really isn't that fast. BUT still not 2 seconds off the 5sp. More like 1.

I know...I'm not doubting you.....

I said...VG 5sp...read my post...yes, that does it in around 8-8.2 The 92se has the ve 5sp which is under 7 seconds to 60. My original post was to say that the VG auto is much quicker to 60 than 9.8.

hmmmm....I don't think they do.....

For whatever reasons the VE auto's are not that fast. Not trying to be a dork or anything I'm sure they are faster than the VG auto's but not by much. I guy near me in Ontario ran 16.8 with his stock VE auto. I think it was Glen S. A stock VG auto runs like 17 flat or so. I think Nismo87 said he saw a VG auto w/out air filter run like 16.89 or something.

Not sure why but the VE autos, from what I read, aren't all that much faster than the vg's.

Re: hmmmm....I don't think they do.....

yeah it has a lot to do with the VERY tall gearing on the auto VE's maximas compared to any of the 5speeds or the VG auto.
