Rear Brake caliper troubles!!

Ive had 2 leaky rear brake calipers. I would fill the master cylinder up one day with fluid, and a day and a half later it would all be on the ground! So I got tired of having to get fluid everyday and got a junkyard caliper that looked pretty decent. I installed it, and the car seems to be dragging at times( like something is holding it bak) this did not happen before I put the other caliper on. This one does not leak, So I am happy about that. But I installed it, and only bled one wheel, because I thought I didnt need to bleed the rest of the wheels. Im driveing up the road, and I smell burning rubber, I look in my rear view mirror, and its coming from my car!! WOw I parked it, and tried to see what was getting hot and smoking. I first thought that since I did spill alot of brake fluid as I was installing the caliper, maybe that is where its coming from. Took her to the car wash to wash away the excess brake fluid to see if that was the cause of the smoking. It went away for a while, and then came bak, along with the brake pedal going all the way to floor again( a late sign that I didnt bleed the whole system!) I dont know what could be wrong besides a stuck caliper maybe?? The car isnt riding like it was before i put the caliper on, I will most likely take it bak to the junkyard and get another before something catches on fire

If you open the system you have to bleed the whole system. If you change 1 caliper on the right side, why not change the other on the left side vice verse. If you have brake drag could be the caliper piston is seized or the caliper bracket pins are seized.

Also, if you're putting used jy calipers on it isn't a bad idea to drop a few more duckets and rebuild them. Better safe than sorry.

When I'll take a chance with a JY front caliper, I certainly won't try that with the rear, since it's more complicated and prone to failure. I went to Rockauto and snatched a pair at a great price with no core return. No smoke, no leak, no headache. I'm leaning toward new or re-manufactured whenever I can.

Yeah I most def agree with you on that note, Ive been trying to avoid not spending the money on a new or reman, but i think i will do it for this part lol.

I found out what the problem was, I didnt bleed the brakes, so the caliper I just installed was being overworkd getting too hot) I bled the system and its good now. Now on to the many other issues of the max lol

I had the same issue first time i changed the calipers on the back. I ended up figuring out that not only did the caliper need to be re-bled as well as both back calipers changed (to ensure continuity on the rear brake patterns, but as a noob i didn't realize that the pads had to "settle" into the new caliper.

Yeah I didnt realize that either, I just installed one caliper, along with new pads, and only bled the caliper that I just replaced. Driving down the road I noticed smoke coming from the rear of my car. I didnt realize that because I didnt bleed the other rear caliper, that the car was only using one rear caliper, and it was getting too hot. Its fixed now, and my brakes are better than ever, Now the only thing Ive got to replace in the rear is the struts.
