How to set the Tps?

93 gxe auto. I think my tps isnt set right. I removed it once and swapped it out but i didnt think it needed to b set bak. Somtimes the ecu acts like it doesent kno what gear im n n it will upshift too early or not soon enough. Other than, that she rides great.

IMO if the setting of the TPS doesn't help/improve (what I suspect will be the case) on this you have one of 2 problems:

1. The actual TPS track and wiper assembly is worn/dirty or
2. You have bad wires/connections on the TPS circuitry.

To trick the TCU into believing that the mounted TPS is guaranteed 100% smooth as intended, get a 100uF 25V capacitor and mount it temporarily on the TPS cable about 6 inches away form the TPS connector - positive lead to the white sensor wire and negative to the black earth wire (you will need to strip back the TPS connector cables to get to good quality copper). If the AT shows marked or even ANY improved shift-point control you have found the cause of your inconsistent AT box control.

Funky TPS and connections can eventually lead to real stupid engine control problems too - like it will start perfectly when cold but after a few seconds it will then die and refuse to start again ................... and if you leave it long enough till the ambient temp increased to around 20C suddenly the thing will start up and act totally normal.

Wiking has created a wonderful how-to on TPS clean/repair here

Well It drives alot better, now even with the a/c on, and the tranny dowshifts and upshifts at the right times now. Before It used to dragg while the ac was on, and upshifting would be too early when I really didnt need it.
