what mods to get?

Hi all, I decided to spend $1k on my max so I want to know what mods I should get. I am constantly hearing that a CAI with a y-pipe are the best mods for the money, and then a GReddy cat back. I was wondering how much difference you noticed in your car after installing all of them, performance and sound-wise. Also, how much would they all run me + labor? Should I get them online or just go to a shop and get them there? And one more question, do any of them have any negative effects on your car besides the hole in the fender well from the CAI? Thanks.

P.S. I got a 1994 GXE, 100% stock.

Hey! I got a 94 gxe too! I just installed warpspeed's CAI. It feels nice. I also installed WSP's y pipe also. They say these two mods together will give 8-12 hp? I'm not sure on the number but you can feel the improvement! Noise level inside the car increased a bit only if you punch it hard. Otherwise, the noise level is pretty close to stock. You can get the mendrel bent Y for about $225? and CAI for $155 ($135 for black tubing)
Another mod to get would be the under drive pulley. But i heard mixed reviews about that. Some say it's a waste of money and time. Others say it'll give noticeable gains. You can get this mod at Ptuning.com right now for $185 i think with free shipping. I heard it's a special for 3rd gen max this week.
For handling performance, I suggest you get the Front strut bar. If you have enough money, drop the car. For tokico/eibach, it'll be about $520 from custommaxima.com. THese mods total to a little over $1k.

spending money on mods depends on if you want looks, or speed. For speed go with the CAI, y-pipe and a R/T Cat, or Car Sound Cat. With just these you will be at about $600 or so. THen you could spend some money on Tint, clear corners, hyperwhite bulbs for looks, or lower it. Or just get a UDP for even more performance and still have some cash left over. You can do a lot with $1000, unless you tryin to get rims.

Probably a stupid question, but what's an R/T Cat? Is it basically a less restrictive catalytic conv.? Also, does the y-pipe make serious difference in the sound, when you accelerate? Thanks.

R/T is a better flowing cat yes. As for sound it is not too much louder - just deeper. It is a nice sound.

what about GReddy

Say I get the y-pipe, r/t cat, and the GReddy cat back, will the car be too loud? Btw, cat back includes the muffler right? What kind of sound does a CAI make? Thanks for all the replies.

just did my full dual exhaust, from the front manifold back. redline exhaust custom bent the whole thing, and it cost 750 for EVERYTHING. including high flow cat, installation, etc. . . .it made the biggest difference of any mod so far. . .

Is this just a racing chip? What exactly does it do and what do I gain from one? How much do they run for? Got any negative effects? Hehe sorry for all the question. Thx for help once again.

It's a complete, re-programmed computer. Avail from Jim Wolf Technology. He's pretty much the best. This is what I have. It mostly just remaps the fuel injection system (gives it more gas). My car is an auto and it started to shift at about 300rpm's higher than it did before. $500-$600. You will see a noticeable improvement, but it is more obvious if you already have you exhaust done and some sort of hi-flow intake and a y-pipe. No ill effects exect for a slightly quicker receding gas gauge if you take advantage of it frequently.
