1992 vg auto transmission swap out, issues with results (

Just two quick questions please.

Can you fill your tourqe convertor too much during initial instalation and if you did what would happen?....

&

If you had the transmission cooliant lines on backwards would it make a differance and what would that be.

First issues I had was all of a sudden when I would put it into drive or rev from Nut or park it would lurch and die. The motor flopped hard like the tourque converter was locked up. When I checked the fluid it smelled burnt so I thought it was bad and swapped out one from the J/Y.

At first it was fine (warm up to 2 miles) did ok, but now its back to its tricks, dying when I put it in gear. If I do manage to get it in gear w/o dying it is pulling the car hard, if I let off the brake it would probably do 20 mph. I does better with more load on the engine (AC and headlights) but still drops to 400 rpm at idle in gear.

Idle in park is all normal, 1500rpm at cold... warms and drops idle to 1100 rpm in about a min or so. When warm idles @ 900 rpms and droppes to 400 in gear.

I did all the things mentioned in the threads regarding "Dies when put in gear" like clean the EGR (clean) AICS (cleaned and swapped with known good one. checked for codes (55) all good there.

What am I missing????? need more info???? please help.

Thanks

Well I would figure if you filled it up too much it would pour out during installation. As for the coolant lines they are designed to go in one direction. I'm pretty sure going in the opposite doesn't help. Hows your TCU? Along with are you sure the trans you swapped in is a good working trans?

As long as the trans is filled properly according to the dipstick, there shouldn't be problems overfilling the torque converter.

I don't think there is some type of one-way valve on the trans cooler part of the radiator, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Did you check for codes on the TCU? Checking the codes on the ECU won't give you TCU codes. Make sure the P indicator light on the Trans Mode Switch is working before chekcing for codes.

I cant check the codes on the TCU due to Power indacator light out so I swapped it out for one from the J/Y. And no Im not sure it or the tranny from the J/Y (same car) are even good. It just seems odd that the symtoms are exactly the same. I keep going back to the Tourque convertor lock up silinoid......

I don't think the trans is all that good.
