If you look just past my regi sticker you can see the HUD projector and the square that reflects the image onto the inside of the windshield. The windshield is a rare item to find from Nissan but they still have a few for around 700-800 bucks. Fortunately I have full coverage including glass threw progressive and have made my claim already. It's suppose to cover the full cost of materials/install for the windshield under the glass coverage I took out but the sunroof is covered under the body damage portion of my coverage. What do you guys think? Will they pay that much for me to get my windshield replaced or just to get a regular(non-HUD) windshield? There looks like some minor body damage(nicks/small dents) and I believe there sending somebody out to estimate the damage. I know these old cars aren't worth much but I've been paying like double of basic coverage for this old beauty just in case something like this happened. I'm not that mad because my family is fine along with our home. Many people have lost there homes, cars and some even their lives. There's also a gasoline crisis in NYC to LINY...people are acting like it's a fuuckin' zombie apocalypse or something!! I'm ready though!!

Keep in mind it doesn't take a very high monetary amount at all to essentially total these cars. With an 800 dollar front glass and likely several hundred dollar (book cost) sunroof plus installation of both you're likely getting close from an insurance perspective, as silly as that sounds. Though that's assuming they actually get you factory HUD glass, which I would be surprised if they did. I'm not sure if they're obligated to, they might be for all I know.

Glad you guys are okay otherwise.

I was thinking along the same line concerning a total out. The HUD is one of the main reasons I've held on to this car and I really have to have that oem glass for the display to reflect properly. My OCD kicks in when it comes to small details and I just can't ***** rigg the HUD with a piece of tint on the winshield!!

It's a digital projection of the speedometer on the inside of the drivers side windshield.

Last I'd heard the HUD windshields were like $1000+

I too have full glass coverage on my digidash GXE thru progressive, lol

I dont even see what the point of it is really. I have a HUD with original windshield and still see "double" everytime I use it...

Just get regular glass, you don't need the special windshield. You can choose whatever shop and glass you want, but if windshield replacement costs your insurance company $1,000, they WILL raise your premium.

What exactly different on the HUD glass anyway? Does it just have that little tinted section where the display is projected? Does the little tinted area have any special property or coating?

I wonder of you could just use normal glass and stick some tint in the same spot. Then you could just use one of those little glass shops that put in new (used) glass for ~$100 or so. Wouldn't even need to go through insurance.

Guys have actually used regular glass and put a piece of tint in the spot. It's really about functionality rather than use when it comes to the options though. The factory glass is an angled flat piece of glass located directly in front of the viewer, that redirects the projected image from the projector in a way that the field of view and projected infinite image at the same time.

Sorry to hear about that fellow north easterner. I remember an old school member on here named Pervis Anethema(or was it awsm66) just had a small piece of tint in that area. Looked like it was workin good. I would love to have seen an original HUD windshield since autoglass was my speciality for quite sometime and I can appreciate an expensive windshield

ps: There are autoglass shops here in brooklyn that charge about $150 installed.. I know of 2 good shops I can send you to. they also have guys who tint over there and can take care of that for you. But it probably wouldnt be a good idea to do till the glue cures.

That's a bummer. I never realized the HUD had a special windshield, I just thought it was some kind of patch the factory put on the glass, kind of like tint or something.

OT a little bit, but one thing I don't understand maybe you could give me a little clarity.

Isn't the East Coast pretty close together? Like, major cities are only a couple hour drive from New York, right?

Why do people wait in line 6 hours for gas when they could drive 2 hours west and get gas from a city that didn't lose power? If they have enough gas in their tanks to idle and crawl along for 6 hours, I would think they could make it a couple hours west going 65 mph. I see images of huge lines heading in one direction toward the gas stations, but no lines going the other way.

Personally, I own about 20 gallons worth of gas cans. I would have just driven west and taken them with me and filled them up. Maybe I am just missing something. We don't have much population out here, so driving 100 miles is nothing, really. I will drive 100 miles to buy supplies to make beer with.

I filled all 3 of my vehicles/3 gas cans a few days before the storm hit. Yesterday I waited about 35-40 minutes to top off our Volvo just incase the gas runs out. Hess has a local refinery not to far from me and there even supplying there competitors during these rough times. My brother is a Nassau county cop and has been working around the clock even though his home doesn't have power. My friend is in the National Guard and has been working around the clock like my brother...thank GOD for these heroes at rough times like this!! I have heard of some people driving/using mass transit to Conn. from Jersey for gas.

It wasn't a serious statement. I just don't like seeing exotics and rare cars in a bad state.
Over 10 people lost their live is the storm. Many their homes got to deal with the headache of wonder what to do next... I got it long before Sandy.

She's not a "total loss" at $1878.00 after $100.00 deductible!!

That's right...an estimate for $1978.00 and they didn't total it out. It must have been close but the estimator said she looked great for regardless of age. The HUD/Digi/Sonar GXE model has a higher book value than the SE/GXE basic model and they didn't total her out. I have no idea if I can even get this HUD windshield but I'll try. My friend has a new sunoof panel for me to install and the passenger side mudflap area started to bubble underneath the paint, so I'll just replace entire fender. They even coughed up dough for the front turn signals that had water in them. Fixing up the Max and spending the rest on my Lude!!

Thats pretty darn great. How much was the windshield itself? Im surprised they still have them around. They probably had to dig it out from one of their ancient 90's warehouses in Japan.
