91 GXE needs new Struts - what to do

My wife's 91 GXE needs new struts. It has the electronic suspension? What are my options?? Can I disable the electronic suspension and put the SE struts on or an aftermarket strut?? Someone told me that I would have to replace the strut mounts as well if I do this. Is this true?? My friend who can get Nissan parts at discount said he can get the 91 SE struts, both front and back, for $260 and the mounts for $200. Does that sound like a fair price?? he can do the install for me on the side, but just wanted to make sure I am making the right moves here?? Oh yeah, nissan quoted me $2300 just for parts on the electronic suspension struts?? ouch!!!

Thanks for your input.

Frank

$260 for struts isn't bad, but you'll also need new boots and bump stops on them.. that'll run almost another $100 for all that stuff.

I'm not sure about the mounts though. I've never messed with one with the electronic suspension, so I can't say anything definite there.

A good replacement (dampening wise) for foriginal struts is KYB-GR2. If you go to their site they have contact information, so you could ask them if the regular struts will mount. Aside from the actuator being mounted on top of the strut, I don't see any difference in the manual between the two types of struts.
