That's so expensive, but quick question. I'm REALLY thinking of getting the ksportGTs because i want a really low drop. Do they deliver the 2.2/2.0 inch drop nicely?

i lowered on KYB, better option to me. they held up for the time i was that low and someone jacked my struts at the junkyard so im assuming they were fine then

if you want a cheaper option, you can find a backyard mechanic. i got all of my stuff done on the 3rd gen before i trained to be a mechanic. i got the timing belt, tensioner, thermostat, water pump, trans fluid changed, control arms/tie rods/ball joints replaced, lowering springs put on, and a bunch of other stuff for about $1000 cash from a backyard mechanic a guy on the site here knew.

going that low is up to you, i liked it but then again i live to own oddball vehicles and slam them not caring about function persay.

Form over function! I'm really excited I found ksports and kybs sonar for $188+$156. So You're thinking I should hire backyard mechanics?

someone who dont know what they are doing can easily destroy your car. t-belt is a bit PITA on these cars since theres really no automatic tensioner on them like the other car manufacturers out there.

if this is your primary daily driver i advise against going the 2+ inch drop. chrome said that he has another way to get to work and etc. so form over function is ok for him. it will bottom out on the slightest bump. your ride quality will be total krap. you will be buying new oil pans or repairing your cross member quite frequently. let's not forget that those KYBs won't last too long on such an aggressive drop since the 3rd gens already have a very short strut from factory. subtract the 2 inches will just put more pressure on the KYBs.

good luck.

Would Tokico shocks handle the 2" drop?

you're really rolling the dice...technically no strut/shock company will warranty your struts with a 2" drop. the part wasn't made/built for that. so you can try with toks...but the company is no longer making them so your warranty is out anyway.

i have konis with eibachs...it's a nice drop...not too aggressive and i don't scrape on anything unless it was a moon crater.

FWIW...i've blown toks with stock ride height on NYC streets after about 30-40K.

Just asking cuz I got a hold of s pair of FRONT Tokico shock from a local saler who had them in the attic for years less then a month old. I have intrax springs to go with the Tokico. I figure that the best shocks made for our cars.

My dad found some archives from the nicoclub website and says it shouldn't be too hard, I'm hoping he's right, I want to drive it!

This car will be my daily so if 2" springs would be that much of a problem I'll try to find some intrax o o e'er eibachs if I can even find those things. The classifieds are very low on 3rd Gen parts. We'll see though, thanks for the heads up Dan! I for sure couldn't afford to replace anything frequently at all lol. Form over function would be a sweet way to go, but this things gotta get me places for a couple years from now!

if they know what theyre doing, yes. like i said, the guy i took mine to was a friend of a guy on the site here and had a good reputation. still was dropping my keys off with a stranger though. turned out to be a really nice guy and hes the one that got me into being a mechanic myself

thats about it, i can toy around with stuff and when something happens i can get it towed to my garage or towed to work and fix it. worst case its a 10 minute walk to work.

i miss my Hardbody, i daily'd it yearround and it was nearly stock. i never had to question if it would start, it never stranded me once, went through blizzards, floods, you name it. and i had something to drive while my Supra broke down. right now, ive got the Supra sitting in the garage still not running and i had to replace the headgasket on the Crown already

and as said, strut warranties are void with lowering springs most of the time. and they can tell if you had lowering springs on them

Funny thing is, my mom told me she's seen this car sitting in the same place for years. Maybe the guy who owns it works there, or maybe it's abandoned, i wouldn't mind borrowing the VE or the leather seats
Pretty cool to see though, i've seen only three in my life. Maybe 3gs are getting vintage

From the looks of it, it an 89-90 SE which still has the VG engine.

Did you find out the owner?

Wow the paint on that is better than most black SE's I see, including 3 out of 4 of the ones I've owned. If you can get a hold of that car for a decent price it's a keeper.

Hey chrome! My dad did what you said and got a backyard mechanic literally a half mile away. Including parts he's charging $185 vs $1200! My car will be drivable soon!

Stillen lip yes. Intrax and Tokico. Wheels were Rota/Konig Subzeros, 17" with 225/45 tires. Those wheels were sought after for being so light. They only weighed 14 lbs per wheel. Can't remember what the total weight was with tires though.

I believe that set of pictures was the last I took. I might have some more from that day on my old hard drive but they'd all be largely the same angle. Shortly after those pictures were taken I returned the car to stock and sold it to buy flyry110's (old member here) car since it was a 5 speed. I had to get it shipped down from Pennsylvania. I then swapped everything from the skyblue VE onto the new (to me) black 5 speed. I got a CF hood for it from our group deal and it looked like this (ignore the '98 date on that one picture, date on the camera was wrong):

Name: Picture670.jpg
Views: 137
Size: 45.2 KB

Name: Picture687.jpg
Views: 118
Size: 42.8 KB

Then got rid of the CF hood when it started deteriorating and it became this (taken at Maxus when it was in Dallas):

Name: Picture115.jpg
Views: 137
Size: 205.4 KB

Then eventually became this:

Name: Carpics027s-1.jpg
Views: 136
Size: 152.7 KB

Since that car was from up north I had to fix some rust (as seen here: http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...-rust-0-a.html), and I ended up returning it to stock and selling it because I found a black on black leather VE 5 locally. So today this leaves me with still a black VE 5 speed just not the same one from the pictures/video above.

I still have Intrax springs so my drop hasn't changed since then. Well actually now I run Intrax up front and Eibach in the rear because I like the slightly raked look.

I haven't really taken many or posted much because they're both still works in progress. My blue one I only paid $200 for with a blown engine and auto transmission. Here it is with my old black VE when I drug the new one home:

Name: Carpics013s.jpg
Views: 111
Size: 189.3 KB

I swapped everything from the old black VE pictured above to the blue VE. I also installed the JDM VE I'd had in the garage into the blue VE and did a 5 speed swap. I sold the black VE seen above as a stock 3rd gen (as stated in my reply to Carl).

Currently my blue VE is in the midst of a turbo build (I actually built the setup 6-7 years ago for the old black VE but never was able to 100% finish it due to budget/college/various life happenings/etc), which will be done this summer. It's actually about 95% done, I just need to fabricate about a foot long section of exhaust. Then I just need to hook up the vacuum lines/fittings/etc. I was hoping to be done weeks ago but crap keeps coming up preventing me from working on it. Unfortunately I realized too late the whole roof is caked in Bondo (looks like they "fixed" hail damage with filler). So after the turbo stuff is completed I'm going to re-skin the roof and paint it, both of which I'll be doing (or attempting) myself. I also bought new wheels to accompany my new eventual go-fast mods (turbo) and paint. Here is the car ago a week ago with one of the new wheels test fitted on the car:

As far as the black VE I am keeping it stock. I spent about a year between 2011-2012 overhauling it - all new suspension, bushings, all engine seals/gaskets, new injectors and even new coil packs, sourcing good leather, etc. That's all done now but the car is just sitting in the driveway because it needs new tires and has an a/c leak and I don't want to blow money on it to finish that stuff right now with all the money I'm blowing on the blue one. The black one needs paint too (it's all faded), but underneath the crappy tires and paint it's essentially a mint VE 5 speed at this point. Once my blue one is all done I'll paint the black one.

The ultimate goal is that within a year or two I will have one very nice badass turbo VE and one near-mint créme de la créme black on black leather VE 5 speed. I really like the idea of having two and being able to go in totally opposite directions with them (stock vs heavily modded).

james...no wonder you don't have any time...take a look at that garage man!! LOL

yeah between life and junk i finished after like 10 years on the turbo. things just kept popping up and after a little time i wasn't motivated and then one day i decided that no matter what i had to finish it because if i didn't then i just dumped a butt load of cash for nothing.

i sooo remember that sky blue with the salad bar wing on the back. it was all the rage back in the day...you know when the poopra came out with that huge wing...everyone wanted it.

the rims was like the hot wheels to get...you and chris had them.

The ultimate goal is that within a year or two I will have one very nice badass turbo VE and one near-mint créme de la créme black on black leather VE 5 speed. I really like the idea of having two and being able to go in totally opposite directions with them (stock vs heavily modded).
wow. That blue one doesn't look as good as your very first one at 16 though

Do you recommend running both eibachs and intrax? And how hard is it to do a 5 speed swap?

Damn James, you've gone through quite of few gems and here I still have my 3rd gen since Dec. of '99. I can't seem to find another since its hard to find them mint with a 5spd let alone a VE. Ever since I haven't driven mine since last year; they have become obsolete and makes me cherish my car even more. Plus I don't feel like starting over with another one. Plus I'm in the market for a newer BMW.

I love the blue one. I think you should keep the lip kit satin black, and those wheels in the front are sexy. I like the idea of having two opposites like you are trying for, I would do that if I didn't already have so many eggs in other baskets.

Funny thing, I have several projects with real potential and all I can think about is doing up my maxima.

I then swapped everything from the skyblue VE onto the new (to me) black 5 speed. I got a CF hood for it from our group deal and it looked like this (ignore the '98 date on that one picture, date on the camera was wrong):

Then got rid of the CF hood when it started deteriorating and it became this (taken at Maxus when it was in Dallas):

Then eventually became this:

Blue VE dash/gauges:

As far as the black VE I am keeping it stock. I spent about a year between 2011-2012 overhauling it - all new suspension, bushings, all engine seals/gaskets, new injectors and even new coil packs, sourcing good leather, etc. That's all done now but the car is just sitting in the driveway because it needs new tires and has an a/c leak and I don't want to blow money on it to finish that stuff right now with all the money I'm blowing on the blue one. I just got the maxima back and its "drivable" he says, but it's got a bad exhaust valve too. So he said it may not be worth putting money into... it would be $1200 to fix with the backyard mechanic.

Not really a shade tree lol, its one of my dads friends who's good with cars (I'm assuming)

But he revved it up and said something to my dad and said the car is "sluggish until it gets up there" and said "yeah jUST drive it until it breaks" "it'll last you in high school"He told my dad to drive it and said "You could fix that before it gets worse"

I'm not sure what's going on but I want my maxima fixed 100% or a new car. Let's see if my moms willing to pour $1200 into it. If so, the project is still on!

So he is telling you it needs $1200 worth of work simply because it's "sluggish until it gets up there"? That's a pretty vague symptom to claim it needs that much in work.

Was the car experiencing issues that caused you to get this looked at or were you simply due for T belt and water pump?
