***Automatic Shifter/Everything But Drive Works***

My max has no tranny problems while driving in gear. Shifts and engages smoothly and correctly. When I take it out of park and select D...nothing engages. So I have to shift it one further down to 2, then back up to D, then it engages in D and works perfectly. I removed the housing around the shifter and noticed nothing profound although I found alot of change and a gold ring! Any thoughts as to why the shifter is doing this?

shifter cable bushing is worn...do a quick search and you'll get the part number and etc.

For reference, this is what it looks like on the shifter end of the cable when the bushing is missing. Lots of freeplay between the shifter and cable.

it's a $4 part and takes 15 minutes to install (including jacking the car up and down). If you can straddle a curb or use ramps, you might not even need a jack.
