problem is with older cars, the paints faded over the years. touch up paint doesnt factor in fading so it will look darker and a bit off

i suppose its better than nothing though

I mixed a couple of Createx auto air colors and got a near perfect pearl match on top of a Rustoleum base. I then covered it with Duplicolor clear. Unfortunately it doesn't last, cracks in the cold, it's happened twice now, which is really annoying because I was happy with my match job both times. Probably due to covering it with some off the shelf rattle can clear.

You would probably be fine using all rattle can paint, problem is, there is no Duplicolor match for any of the 3rd gen colors, so you're stuck with the closest you can find. Might just want to think about a proper paint job instead of a budget fix. I've tried several budget solutions, mostly it's just been waste of time.

Where i am we have a NAPA auto parts that mixes the paint with a urethane so it's a one step process and no need for clear coat. They also put it in a spray can which makes it very convenient for touch ups. You may want to see if there's an auto paint store near you that can scan the paint on your car and come up with a good match and put it in a spray balm for you.

I remember getting some Aztec Red in Duplicolor and have a couple cans of Black emerald now. Maybe they don't make it now?
