VTC Solenoid ground
VTC Solenoid ground
Greetings all. My question is this, can anyone please post a pic of a grounded VTC Solenoid for a ve30de? I need to know what the "finished product" looks like so I can emulate it for my VTC clacking issue. I picked up the NTB document from the dealership but it didn't explain the grounding fix. Also, if there's anyone in the West Palm Beach area that wants to give me a hand, let me know! Thanks.
I don't have a picture but it's impossible to screw up. Cut open the wiring going into either VTC solenoid. Splice a wire into the yellow wire. Connect the other end of the wire to a ground. The simplest/cleanest method is to use one of the 10 mm bolts that goes over the water pipe and connects the two fuel rails as your ground. This way, your wire only needs to be a couple inches long.
You can just ground the VTCs like that but when grounded you can get a lumpy idle.
A better idea is to run the wire into the cabin and add a switch to ground so you can turn the VTCs off and on. The clack should go away at higher revs anyway and you'll retain whatever power gains the VTC system provides.

Thanks to both of you. I am heading outside to work on it now. BTW, I love your SE on youtube James. Im on my way to sexing mine up too, although I have to admit that it's pretty dam sexy now!
The VG is a good engine, but I have had both. I like the VE for it's potential more, as far as power is concerned, but I believe the VG is more reliable, in my opinion. Plus, I love when people look under my hood, especially the so-called Nissan experts, yet none of them have heard of the VE engine. That alone is worth the price of admission
